It's finished! And very heavy. Hoping washing will lighten it up and fix my wavy binding. Otherwise, we'll call it a scalloped or ruffled border! LOL!

No pattern to link, but it came from a wonderful book titled "Weekend Quilting Wonders." Took me way longer than a weekend!

The quilting is by Bella Quilting.

Nice Quilt...

I saw a quilt using this pattern at the Pajaro Valley Quilt Fair, weekend before last. It also used batiks; however, the setting material was darker so there was less of a contrast between the elongated four patch and the setting. I liked the pattern because it was simple but effective. Looking at your quitl, I realized I will have to make a quilt using the same pattern. Oh well, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery...

Whoa, that's fabulous! Chele, between your batiks and those gorgeous printed fabrics you use, I'm about to turn green with envy!

Steve 03-05-2008 11:01 AM

This is exactly what I like about this group. I’ve had dozens of thoughts as to how to use Batiks, but nothing at all along these lines; your use is absolutely fantastic. Very, very nice Chele, keep up the great work.

What made it heavy by the way?

Tiffany 03-05-2008 03:27 PM

I just love your colors! The batiks are so vibrant.

If washing and blocking doesn't get rid of your wavy borders, here is a tip that might help for next time. Before you sew your binding on, sew a 1/8-inch ribbon (like the kind you find in the craft or fabric store) down the edge of your quilt. Then add your binding as normal, which will completely hide this ribbon inside your binding. It helps support the edge and keeps it from waving. At least that's supposed to be how it works. I haven't tried this method and am just repeating what I learned at a demo at my local quilt guild. The gal who gave the demonstration places and wins lots of ribbons so I am assuming she knows what she is talking about. Hoep this helps!
