I love this! Is there a tutorial anywhere for it?

So you can use anything, including bias. If you don't use paper your blocks can and do get all misshapen and wonky. Interfacing is another solution if someone doesn't want to rip off the paper.

I used a base of muslin for my first one but decided I didn't need it and square them up and I haven't had any trouble with them going wonky on me but it's good to know another method of doing things. I may have just been lucky.

It does take a while. But, if you shorten your stitch length it's much easier. Like I said, this technique really needs stabilization to make it fast and to use all sorts of scraps. And the base allows you not to fret so much about straight strips and lining up edges. As long as you have a good 1/4" coverage of seams, you're good to go. You can use paper, muslin, interfacing, dissolvable paper or fabric and on and on. You don't have to remove the base layer, but it does add an added thickness to your quilt and an added expense(fabric) that I don't really want to add on to my mainly charity quilts. So, recycled paper ,headed to the shredder, works best for most of my string quilts.

I know I am echoing your accolades from others. This is great and I love how you begin with the black strip in the center. I love it. It inspires me to do some of my own! Thanks!
