Scrappy Spiderweb top

2 Attachment(s)
the scrappy top is finished after several weekends of marathon sewing. Here is the beginning of the project and the completed top. This is made from fabrics collected by a girl, from every field hockey game she played in school. She is going to college and will be surprised with this going away quilt.

This is a beautiful quilt, but I don't quite understand how you collect fabrics while playing field hockey. Can you explain?

Merrylin 02-14-2016 06:50 PM

I love this pattern! Great way to use up scraps.

What a wonderful quilt to send along.

It is very beautiful! The webs have such a big selection of fabric, yet they show like a gorgeous dreamy single fabric when viewing the whole quilt.

This is such a cute idea. At every game each girl was given a strip of fabric ( 2"w x 21" l) to wear as a head band during the game. They were a symbol of the team and solidarity. Everything from A to Z is represented in each strip from angels to zebras. Her school colors are Navy and white so the accents represent her school. The "Star" is her favorite color, maroon.

I have to say I enjoyed making this quilt so much for her and IMHO, it did turn out well.
Thanks for liking it.

wow, that looks like a lot of work. Did you use the spider web ruler? I really like your piano key border... it compliments the webs in your quilt top.

grammasharon 02-16-2016 05:52 AM

I bet there is a ton of memories in this one. She will be thrilled.

I use Bonnie Hunters method. paper piecing is so easy for me when doing this pattern. i love her scrappy style.

I hope every one gives this a try, even a table topper or wall hanging. The spiderweb is so versatile and a fun way to use scraps and leftovers.

Never would I have made a connection between field hockey and fabric collecting, but it obviously worked out to be a beautiful result. The recipient will undoubtedly be amazed and thrilled with this quilt.
