scrappy square in square in square blocks

Well, I started to make the backing for my hippie love beads stack and whack that I posted a picture of last week. I had quite a bit of the sashing and setting fabrics leftover, and a bunch of little stacked squares from the stack and whack, so I decided to piece a few blocks to use on the backing. I was having such a good time making these blocks that I've ended up with enough to make another quilt top. That's a good thing, right? Still don't have the backing put together yet, maybe tonight!

Definitely a good thing :) I like your blocks!

Nice scrappy sampler quilt.

MaryMo 05-31-2012 02:31 PM

combination of color is playful ... this quilt will be beautiful!

pastimesquiltdesign 05-31-2012 02:36 PM

So are you using the blocks for the back of the first quilt or making a new quilt top out of them? They are way cute. Peggy

dhanke 05-31-2012 03:26 PM

I've made enough to do both, I had intended to make 8 pieced 10" blocks to intersperse with 10" squares for the pieced backing. I now have a total of 30 pieced blocks, so I should have enough to make both, and I do believe I'll turn out a few more before I'm done. I still have a little pile of scraps and 2" 4 patch blocks.

I love your blocks! How wonderful to make another top and still more scraps to go! I will have to rethink my leftover scraps instead of just bagging them!

Phannie1 05-31-2012 03:45 PM

That is so cute. I may have to start one.

JJean 05-31-2012 03:53 PM

You'll end up with 2 quilts in 1! I'm liking it a lot!

nannyrick 05-31-2012 03:55 PM

Very nice!!

Lucky you! With the fabric you bought for your Stack 'n Whack you got a two-fer! Isn't it great fun to create something extra with scraps! Love what you came up with. I absolutely love to work with scraps and so does my wallet! lol Thanks for sharing.

Aren't "leftovers" the best?!? LOL! This is another fabulous top... are you going to name it "Twofer"? LOL!

You have been busy. I've been thinking about doing a scrappy like this. It goes on my list. Need to finish some UFO's first.

Very nice, good way to use up scraps. I'm still trying to use up scraps from previous quilts.

debcavan 06-01-2012 06:47 PM

Now that is fun. And the colors are so happy

nannya54 06-02-2012 05:12 AM

That's going to be a fun top! Yes, a good thing! I like that it's not all the same square in a square in a square. With the scrappy look, this is perfectly mixed! Great job!

cjackaitlin 06-02-2012 05:24 AM

Two quilts for the price of one, and both will look so nice. Whats better than that? Thanks for sharing them with us.

Kris P 06-02-2012 05:47 AM

I do this all the time. That's why I have so many quilt tops, and not so many completed quilts. Yours is very pretty.

dsews2 06-02-2012 06:58 AM

trolleystation 06-02-2012 03:44 PM

I get such a 'kick' when someone is so excited about their quilt that they can't seem to stop.

Latrinka 06-02-2012 06:31 PM

Sew cute! Looks like fun!

I love the different centers of the squares, and no two alike! Secondary quilts are the best kind! Almost free!

great job!!!

cwessel47 06-05-2012 08:55 AM

Isn't it grand when you have that bonus left at the end of the first project? Wonderful "leftovers!" It's looking good - yum, yum!

char634w 06-05-2012 09:15 AM

Funny how that happens..... your quilt is terrific.
