scrappy UFO finally finished

Several years back I saw this pattern at the Sisters Oregon Outdoor Quilt Show. For at least 3 years, It has been sitting in one of my drawers waiting for me to quilt it. A friend quilted it for me and I just finished the binding. (I have made 2 or 3 small versions of this as baby quilts as well.
According to Barbara Brackman, the pattern has (at least) 2 names: Vestibule (Ladies Art Company) and Square Cross (Nancy Cabot). It's a great way to use lots of scraps. The border, binding and the folded HST star point were the only things that were not scraps. |
Oh, that looks great! How big were the squares? I can see how it would reduce the scrap piles a lot.
|
The squares were cut at 5.5, 2.5 and 1 3/8" (The last was folded for the star HSTs) The other was cut at 2.5"x5.5". I suspect the one I saw at the Sisters Show was somewhat larger, but those sizes worked for me. About half of the star points were scraps, the rest were ubleached muslin.

I got the pattern from Quilters Cache where it was called Morning Star. Size of the blocks were larger, think squares were 6 1/2 or 9 1/2. It's a quick and good looking quilt.
