I have been trying to use up scraps but the little rascals keep multiplying. Solution- get a bigger scrap bin!:D

paintmejudy 05-20-2017 06:41 AM

Atta girl! I have the same solution, but sadly, more than one container. LOL But it is a challenge, isn't it, to try and make use of all these little bitties you can't bear to throw away!

Boston1954 05-20-2017 06:41 AM

Good one! I try sometimes to use up mine, and end up making more.

toverly 05-20-2017 06:48 AM

Great idea for a scrap bin. I use a large plastic clothes basket, I like your's it's taller.

tessagin 05-20-2017 06:49 AM

At least it's a cute bin.

helou 05-20-2017 07:02 AM

cute one too. You will have more choice once it's filled up. Great idea!

That's the way to handle that problem. I have been trying to use up some of my scraps.

but they just keep making more.

needles3thread 05-20-2017 07:29 AM

you found the solution

QM 05-20-2017 07:32 AM

As fast as I try to use them up, I still have a bureau of them.

I cut lots of 1.5" strips from my scraps and have been making scrappy log cabin blocks whenever I want to sew but don't want to get involved in a "project." It's a brainless activity, but I've finished one quilt that I just mailed off yesterday, and I'm half-way through another. I love the way they look, and each quilt is a trip down the memory lane of quilts that I have made.

i know the feeling cute bin

AVFD215 05-20-2017 02:56 PM

How small does a scrap have to be before you toss it out?

Cam's gram 05-20-2017 03:04 PM

Love your solution! We think along the same lines.

Jingle 05-20-2017 08:01 PM

I have made about 50 -75 lap size to cover one person out of scraps. I still couldn't use them all, as I seems to make lots of controlled scrappies. I gave my Daughter many and just gifted her with much more. She likes to mess with them and I am sick of dealing with them for the past 2 or 3 months.

jmoore 05-21-2017 03:34 AM

Yes, they do multiply...your new bin will be a great catch all for your ongoing scrap addiction.

donna873 05-21-2017 03:51 AM

After each project, I take care of my scraps by cutting them in sizes I use the most. 10 inch squares, 5 inch squares, 2.5 inch squares. that makes it faster when I need to make a quick scrappy quilt.

I don't keep anything under 2.5 inches, I put them in a bag to donate to the ladies at the church who make postage stamp quilts

coopah 05-21-2017 04:40 AM

That's a good one! I have an extra collapsible laundry bin from the Dollar Tree...thanks for giving me an idea of what to do with it! :-)
Your scraps are beautiful, BTW!

red-warrior 05-21-2017 07:25 AM

Loisf I love your quilt and will start making 11/2 inch strips with your log cabin in mind! Tartan you make such lovely things that your new bin will just give you more options for your creativity!

rryder 05-21-2017 08:50 AM

LOL! Great solution Tartan!

salederer 05-21-2017 10:26 AM

Love your idea! LOL.

MaggieLou 05-21-2017 12:35 PM

Great idea. I just remembered an extra three section rolling laundry cart that would be perfect. I can also separate colors into light medium and dark.

4Peaches 05-21-2017 12:47 PM

wonderful idea to store the scraps in!

carolynjo 05-21-2017 04:04 PM

That is a beautiful solution to the scrap problem!

sewnsewer2 05-22-2017 08:07 AM

Lol I hear ya! I have 3 tall kitchen trash cans full of scraps.

Geri B 05-22-2017 08:21 AM

.....if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! Dollar Tree here I come!

busy fingers 05-22-2017 01:32 PM

You got my curiosity....I thought you were going to show us another one of your gorgeous creations!!!!

Next time.

themachinelady 05-22-2017 04:59 PM

Yeah and now I have three of the large tubs with lids that won't close. Am going to have to get a better handle on them that is all there is to it! Too many ufo's to finish before utilizing those scraps and no time to get at any of it right now. They do seem to multiply like rabbits LOL Even if I am not down in my sewing room it seems.

annette1952 05-22-2017 05:42 PM

LOL You are so funny Tartan! I bought one of those 3 bag laundry sorters on a little cart. It takes up quite a bit of floor space but it works good.

1screech 05-26-2017 02:27 PM

I can hardly see a difference in scraps after two quilts were pieced...those little scraps are like rabbits...just keep multiplying. I love scraps and scrap quilts. My tiny pieces and threads go to a bag for a lady who makes donation dog beds. Anything over 1" goes to my scrap boxes. Several times a year when I need to do mindless sewing, I sew a scrap quilt.

Becky's Crafts 05-26-2017 04:46 PM

I like your new one, but I'd need a 30 gallon bag for all my scraps! LOL!! I do use them quite frequently, but I hate to throw them out as they've saved me a lot of problems since I started quilting in 2010!! One day I hope to make a special quilt with them.

Grandma Peg 05-26-2017 08:00 PM

Lie your idea for scraps, as they never go down.
