I accidentally came upon this machine at a tool sale I went to with my husband. I was amazed it had a tag of only $20.00 on it. It is in the original wooden spring loaded cabinet and appears in wonderful shape. i am just cleaning it up now, but am thrilled with it and the incredible amount of accessories, books, needles, etc. that came with it. Will be fun to get to know what all it does; cams, and cams, and cams (smile).

It ate my message again. Way to go. $20.00 is not a deal. it is a steal. That is just amazing. Aren't you glad you went to the tool sale. M

Congratulations on your great find.

Oh my! I have one very similar to that. I bought it in 1973 or 4. It is a workhorse. I bought a cheap Brother to lug around and really like it, but took my Kenmore out the other day to satin stitch around an elephant that I appliqued on a baby quilt. I'd just had it serviced and it sewed like a dream. Enjoy you machine.

Great price. I have a Kenmore 1813 that looks a lot like yours. I didn't see an owners manual with the parts so if you need any info let me know and I'll be happy to look it up in mine. I noticed that you have the chain stitch attachments. This has been handy to have. Hope you enjoy your new machine.

Let me know how this chain stitch gizmo (smile) works. This is new to me. You can PM me as well.

I use to have one just like it I bought in 1970 while working at Sears, really sorry I GAVE it away. It would sew through anything.

this is a copy of the instructions for the chain stitch. The attachments are in the gold box near the front of your picture

Murphy, this has to be the coolest place on the web. You buy a machine at a tool sale, for $20.00 and some one else has the manual and post it here and you can read it. This is just tooooo cool. Maybe you 2 could do a PM and swap address's and you could get a copy of it. Just the coolest place ever. M

(I realize this is an old thread...)

I am completely envious of you as I have decided that 1753 is the machine that I want to replace my existing 1750 and I live in Iowa to boot! The difference being that the 1753 has the dual belt system which is supposed to be better for heavy fabrics.

(Anyone can contact me if they know of a reasonably priced machine for sale)

I hope you are enjoying and appreciating your wonderful find. It's great to hear about these machines going to a good home. :-)

I love my vintage Kenmore, too! Bought it at an estate sale for $10 last year, and it's wonderful to sew with.. Enjoy yours!

I'm on my way to go get one, tomorrow, that I found on Craigslist for $25. I'm pretty sure it comes with the cams and it's in a nice looking cabinet. I sure don't need another machine but I can't pass it up.

The Kenmore's aren't as pretty as some of the other vintage machines that I have but boy oh boy do they sew nicely!!

heather1949 01-20-2013 01:10 AM

Gee what a beauty she is, it looks awesome and so much stuff came with her, well done on your find.

QuiltMom2 01-20-2013 05:06 AM

That's my Kenmore!! I have one just like it without sewing cabinet that I purchased in 1967 for $187.59 - it has been a workhorse for forty years and still sews beautifully. It has never been professionally serviced, but I did a pretty good job of routine maintenance and nothing has ever broken on it. I take that back, my DH rewired it one time when I had damaged the cord. Have fun with that machine: I often think that may be the best money I ever spent.
