My hubs bought this at a yard sale thinking I might want it but I don't collect or use them like you guys do. It was very nice of him and his feelings are not hurt because I don't want it. I asked him  So does anyone know about what the age is?

dphelps 07-10-2010 11:16 AM

Marsye, I bet Lostn51 will know.

virtualbernie 07-10-2010 11:16 AM

It's the model of the machine. I have a treadle 27. They have 221's, 66's, etc.

sharon b 07-10-2010 12:01 PM

Have you tried it yet ? Does it work ?

Yes it works and sounds good! It took me forever to figure out how to thread it! Its before my time. If anyone is interested PM me.

BellaBoo 07-10-2010 12:22 PM

If you do any paper piecing this machine is the best! The seam length will shorten to 30 stitches per inch! I have never figured out what anyone would use 30 stitches per inch for. I have one of these in the original cabinet and it sews like a dream. Sews perfect stitches and will use any size thread, linty or not. Easy to clean and maintain. It is a perfect first machine for anyone. This machine will be sewing for many many years if taken care of. It won't be that much to ship either, it's really light compared to a lot of the older metal machines. There are several posters that are looking for machine as they are out of work now. I hope they see this!

Miss it too! Always made me chuckle. Although it is nice to see your sweet face, too!

I have a very similiar machine, was originally a treadle, but my dad switched to a motor in the '60's. I want to clean it up and put it back to a treadle 'cause the foot pedal and cord must have gotten hot, they are partially melted, so can't plug it in. I learned to sew when it was still a treadle. Fun.

dkabasketlady 07-10-2010 01:27 PM

Gorgeous machine, I wish I lived closer & I'd take it off your hands, feet, table or wherever it's at,lol!!!!

I have to agree with you completely. Raptureready. Everyone is so happy to hear from Marsye and your avatar, Marsye,
right now, is very pretty. I can tell by your smile that I'd love to know you personally. I sew really often with a great bunch of ladies and we are all a little crazy and have so much fun. You would certainly fit right in.

Your machine was made September 20, 1948 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. They made 35,000 of the model 15s.

jljack 07-10-2010 09:57 PM

We've all "Gone Natural" so that we can get to know each other....it's kinda fun, actually!!

Suzanne57 07-10-2010 10:17 PM

It looks like mine, a 15-91. If it does not have a belt, then it is a 19-91. There is a website to ID old Singers.

Try it!!!!!!, you'll love it!!!!!

In 1980 I went to a garage sale & bought a 1960 Singer. It looks just like yours. I used it for every thing until about 8 years ago. DD has it now. She lives in FL. She doesn't know how to thread it so she hasn't used it in a few years. When she lived at home she didn't want to learn from me. Now she has children & wants to learn but we're separated by half the country.

EC 07-11-2010 03:11 PM

Send your daughter here http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html
for a manual for her model to learn how to thread it

Yeah, the threading is different from my other machine. It's going to be fun to remember which is which. Left to right or right to left. The 15-91 is right to left. As you face it, use your right hand to hold the thread. My Electro Grand is left to right, using left hand to hold the thread. I found a free online manual showing the threading path.

This one is almost the same as the one I learned to sew on. Very nice machine. Easy to use and maintain.
