We should start a thread just for sewing rooms. I love to look at the photos of other peoples rooms. Perhaps someone knows how to keep this post at the top. Here is my new sewing room. I share it with the guest room. I have a closet for storage but I am still working on that area.

You're very organized, and it's such a pretty room. My sewing room is a disaster area.

marsye 01-13-2010 12:48 PM

I like your sewing room but I love that little country looking cabinet!

sew_lulu 01-13-2010 12:48 PM

Pretty yellow! And I love your white cabinet. What a fun space you have.

Looks like a very nice room to sew in!!!

Here are a few pics of my "sewing room" which, by the way, is the family room and computer room. Since these pictures were taken, the cabinets have been completely filled and blinds have been added to the window as well as a Daylight lamp.

Love your thread holder on the wall. Where did you get it?

Rachelcb80 01-13-2010 05:14 PM

Holy fabric stash Batman! That is one full set of cabinets Gayle! Does everyone have a stash like that or are you just a superb collector?

Ummmmmm I am really good at collecting?? Hi, my name is Gayle and I am a fabriholic. I got the collecting down pretty good before I learned to quilt and have just perfected it. I feel a deep down need to add to it monthly (sometimes weekly, a little here, a little there)
Not everyone has a stash like this, some have much more!!! Among my quilting friends here in my town I have the largest collection. They know where to come if they are looking for something, especially if they need cool colors, especially if they need purples, or greens.

Well I aspire to become that good at collecting someday! I have one Rubbermaid bin that holds my current collection. I see fabric I like all the time, I just can never decide how much you buy of fabric that you like, but don't have a project in mind for. One yard? Two? Less? :)

Jim's Gem 01-13-2010 06:40 PM

Well,..... I like to buy stuff on sale. Fortunately I am in an area where I have a lot of Choices of Quilt shops carrying great quality fabrics. I do occasionally buy stuff not on sale if it calls my name. I will usually get a yard sometimes a yard and a half. If it is on sale, however, if it a color I like and I know will go with others in my stash, I will buy a yard min, many times 3 yards and if it is a great sale.....6 yards to the rest of the bolt. I have a bunch, about 4 large Rubbermaid totes as well as the upper left cabinet is all over 5 yards. Many pieces are 10 yards cause they were good quality fabrics that I got for $3 or under a yard.
If it's something that I don't like and I need for a project I will only buy what's needed or a fat quarter. Mostly I buy at least a 1/2 yard.

Linda it is just a 1x2 with finishing nails pounded in it!! above that is a piece of Styrofoam that came in the packing of the bookcases held up with double stick tape! There is also a square of Styrofoam from another package that holds my seam ripper, needle threaders and small scissors!

Gayle--Right now that room looks like a bomb went off in it!

I took those pics several years ago--my stash has grown (since I started working in a quilt shop)----but NOBODYS stash makes me jealous like your cabinets full of fabric!!!! And, yes, I remember you saying you had totes elsewhere for your overflow!!!!

Looking at all these photos I need more fabric. I am trying to use up my stash before the big quilt fair in March. I tend to only buy what I need, I am frugal like that. But I always check the remnents section in my Joanns.

amma 01-15-2010 05:06 PM

You all have such awesome rooms :D:D:D

Clothfiend 01-15-2010 06:18 PM

Now, if you all want to see a mess, I mean a REAL mess, you ought to see my sewing room. I'd show it to you if I could find it under all my creative clutter...
