who else has shad flies? we have a very healthy lake by the number of shads we have each year. Lights near the lake are turned off as much as possible as that is what attracts them. Smell fishy when they die within hours of coming ashore

Looks like what we in SE Mich call fish flies. At our lake, they only last about 24 hours and then they die and don't come back till next year.

We call those "lacewings". I haven't seen a single one this year, but we never have that many anyway. It's just been way to dry here for the past several months.

We do have an abundance of grasshoppers, but it's so hot the fish haven't been biting.

Oh gosh, its that time of year! They get bad on the river in PA. Bats love them!

We don't have these where I live. I am sure somewhere in Florida there are fish flys. What we have are Lovebugs. What a mess. They come out of the grass and ground.

Yes, our fruit trees showed the first japanese beatles today. I am hoping to get my grandkids to take them off-- they knock them into a bucket of soapy water, I pay a penny for each one they catch.
At least we don't have the plague of ticks some areas are having this year. A friend and her hubby both got lyme disease recently from deer ticks.

We don't have those but I'd trade you for the big roaches we get in the CA desert. It's a constant battle to keep them out.
