The shadows show already.

I've wanted to try this pattern for a long time. Made 40 blocks so far--plan to make wall hangings. There are two ways I want to do it, so one of each for now. I combined two sets of directions to make these. I was so happily surprised with the photo, taken to see if I like the lay-out, showed the shadow effect already. Cool.

Going to be neat!

meyert 04-01-2016 05:08 PM

looks good. I made one of these and was very happy with how it turned out. Your colors are great and will show the shadow wonderfully. Can't wait to see the finished quilt!

Geri B 04-01-2016 05:10 PM

Oh, now I see it! At first, when I looked at the pic I was seeing the cutting mat in the background and couldn't figure out " what shadow"! Then I realized my error and now, yes, looking good!

Thanks! I wanted to use what I had--so the shadow is blue-ish and the background is white-ish. lol It's working. These will be pretty small--exactly what I need after the monsters I just finished.

love the fabrics you choose for this quilt.

DOTTYMO 04-01-2016 10:53 PM

When sewn together the shadow will be so much more prominent. Love the bright stimulating colours.

I like the effect of the shadowing with this pattern. It can be used to highlight any concept. I used it with road equipment for a grandson. I like the way it emphasizes colors and patterns in your quilt. It makes those great fabrics just 'sing'. I will be anxious to see the quilt finished.

ManiacQuilter2 04-02-2016 08:43 AM

If you add white sashing between the blocks, the shadow will show up even more. Great idea to use with those bright fabrics.

RedGarnet222 04-02-2016 10:08 AM

How fun! I really love the bright fabrics you used. All that being said, I have a couple charm packs I have been wanting to use up and I think this pattern done in a lighter colorway just might be the pattern I have been looking for. So thanks for sharing!

The top is together. Only 25" square. Perfect wall hanging size. I think it'd be perfect for a child psychiatrist's office (my daughter is heading that direction). ;-) This whole shadow thing delights me. I'm going to make more. :-) How should it be quilted? it's going to be a stunning wall hanging... I love your selection of fabrics

I really like how it turned out. Are your colored blocks batiks? They're so pretty. Very modern, which is so popular. I've been wanting to quilt something with straight top to bottom lines. Maybe throw in a tear drop. Or I saw one quilted with a top to bottom swirl/line and a wavy line between. (Can you picture that?) it reminded me a little of wood grain. Anyway, I'm sure whatever you choose will be perfect and will look awesome on the wall of your daughters future counseling office! :D

The fabric is Moda's Poems From Pebbles. I got them from Green Fairy Quilts. I fell in love with the line after making some bags with it.

I wonder if that straight line quilting idea is the way to go. I want to enhance or pop the shadow effect--not distract from it. Feline Fanatic is my quilting advisor, but she knows I need simple easy ideas... very simple, very easy. lol

Wow, love the bright fabrics, going to be great.

Me too. I was confused by the upper left corners being slanted, until I realized that the left strips were not laying completely flat. Funny how our eyes can fool us into "seeing" things.

heather1949 04-04-2016 12:35 AM

It looks awesome :)

JoyjoyMarie 04-04-2016 07:25 AM
