Go to Indiana or Ohio there are a lot of them and maps to see them all...Very nice ones you have there...

Didn't they used to say that these were some sort of hex design? They were painted on barns for good luck.

My mind is full of useless trivia, but I enjoy it!

I am going to make me a couple of them too. They are so neat. My Dad has a nautical star on his house.
Yours are really cool!

LOL I love useless trivia, you learn something new everyday.

The painted shed quilts or barn quilts are really nice, I would love to see something like this happen as a tourist drawcard here in Australia.

These are popular in various parts of the country. Just google "barn quilts" and see what you come up with! You can take a virtual cross-country tour and see many really cool ones.

A friend of mine told me about a barn that has a bunch of barn quilts in Racine, Wi. I live to far to go there, but one day I will go there to take pictures of it. I googled it and found where it was. Looks pretty neat.

The designs on hex signs that were put on barns and houses were different. They had Pennsylvania Dutch designs of birds and flowers. (distelfinks...sp? and tulips) usually. They were lovely too

Both sides of plywood that can withstand the weather are first covered with paint and then a quilt design is put on one of the sides. The quilt design side then has a covering of outdoor varnish so the weather won`t affect it. Have fun with them.
