I have fallen in love with Quiltville patterns, so I have been collecting Men's shirts (which is difficult when you aren't married) so I have gotten really familiar with the men's section at the goodwill. I am working on the Smokey Mountain Stars pattern, and I love the way it is coming together.

Thanks for looking
Carrie

Check your other "thrift" stores too.... mine here often have dollar days for clothes...

Wow! Great idea!

Looks great...that would be like going on a treasure hunt to gather fabric and finding the treasure when the quilt is done

GirlieWhirlie 03-27-2011 05:05 AM

I love this idea. I'm going to start collecting.

Love the stars. You will have to share pics when you finish,. Thanks for sharing.

Love what you are doing with them!!! Check yard sales, too, with summer coming on. I also use men's shirts for quilting, and can sometimes get large ones for as little as 10 cents when a yard sale is getting ready to close down.

I really like that. It looks really good so far, please post when you complete it.

The Goodwill nearest me puts out some of the clothing items in the morning and sells them for 1.49 per pound. Much cheaper than 4.79 per shirt. I've found some aweful looking plaid shirts and shorts in there that will look awesome in a quilt.

I've been on a mens-XXXL-plaid-or-stripe-cotton-shirt hunting expedition since Bonnie Hunter was in town a couple months ago. :D

What a great comfort quilt.

jaciqltznok 03-27-2011 08:28 AM

Darn that Bonnie Hunter...I have a garage that has 12 of the large boxes that eggs come in full of mens shirts ready to be cut up....might need a team to come and help...free sleeves!

Jo M 03-27-2011 08:39 AM

I love how fresh and crisp it looks.

I know what you mean. Bonnie Hunter changed the way I look at what men are wearing. I have even taken about 6 of my son-in-law's shirts off his back. I am ruthless. LOL

Looking good, can't wait to see it finished!

Yours is just awesome! I really love the way the pattern uses all the colors.

I just looked at this pattern last week and I am so ready to make it today. Sad to say i have 2 quilts ahead of this one to finish. I am not really a scrappy quilt person but I love the fact that she had shown a picture with one done in all blue men's shirts. So that may be my approach is a controlled scrappy.

RuthFru 03-27-2011 11:27 AM

looking good
