Unfortunately, my quilting history is necessarily short - since I've only been quilting for about a year! No place but up to go from here though, right?
Here's the first quilt I made - it was for my niece. The top was hand pieced, but I needed it pretty quickly so I had to machine quilt it. (Also, this is my first time posting pictures...I hope it works...) Quilt for my niece. |
You did a great job for first quilt. Very pretty. And even tho you have only been quilting you are one up on me as I have been quilting for about 37 years but still haven't figured out how to post pics to computer. And I have been working on computers for years also.
Keep up the good work on your quilting and we look forward to seeing many many more!!!! |
Keep them coming girl :!:

And here's the quilt I'm hand piecing right now. It's from Jinny Beyer's Quiltmaking by Hand book - and I think it's called "Golden Rectangle" - all the pieces are rectangles of course. :) I used fabric from Jinny Beyer's palette for this quilt. The quilt is separated into four panels. I have one completed, and am almost done with the second panel! Then I'll be halfway done! I can't believe it! Anyways...I'm also including a picture Jinny Beyer's quilt so you can get an idea what the finished product will look like.

and then! There's the project I'm so excited about I can hardly contain myself! I only recently found out about 30's reproduction prints, but I am absolutely in love.
My mother signed us up for a quilt class - but I didn't know what the pattern was initially. I was really hoping it would be something like a dresden plate (as I just think those look adorable with 30's repro. fabrics), and it is!!!! (well - there's only one dresden plate in the middle, but then fans all around!) It will look so amazing with 30's prints! So I picked out my fabric last week. The class is tomorrow - and I can't wait! And for this quilt, I'll definitely be doing machine piecing, but I'm going to try to hand quilt it. I'm in fabric love! a closeup of the fabric I'll use for the plate/fans! <3 I just wanted you to see the cute background fabric I'll be using. It's got such cute pastel dots! |
Wow!!!! Love them both. Great job.

Welcome to the forum Bluedande!
I love your chosice of fabrics for the dresdin, have fun at your class, you will learn a lot! Love your other quilts too! |
Welcome.
You're off to a great start. I like all your quilts. You did a good job on your niece's quilt and the Jinny Beyer bargello one is going to look lovely when done. I loved 30's repro fabrics before I knew that that was what they were called, and a DP is perfect for those fabrics. I am looking forward to seeing your DP blocks/quilt. ranger |
Your points/square corners match really well. Great job!

Very pretty!!

Very pretty! You did great for your first time! Thanks for sharing.

Great fabrics! I love the dresden plate, too, but I think it's too advanced for me. Maybe after a few more easy projects.

Thanks so much everyone! Mom is picking me up from work today (yay for playin' hooky!) so we can carpool to the class. Hopefully I'll have a decent looking center to show you this evening after class. :)

I have fabric very similar and I think the dresdan plate pattern and the fabric are a perfect fit. Hope you can post pictures soon.

Thank you all so much for your encouraging words :) It's fun to be in a community like this.
Here is some of the progress I've made on the Dresden plate/fan quilt that I took a class on. During class, I was only able to cut the blades and sew together one 5-blade fan (See picture 1). Throughout this week, I've sewn together the rest of the 5-blade fans. (see picture 2!) And look what happens when I lay them out all squiggly like! (see picture 3!) Isn't it fun?! The white fabric isn't the background - it's just my ironing board extender thingy that my mom made me (thanks mom!). But the squiggles are going to be surrounding the center - which will be a Dresden plate - pictures coming in the next post... |

When I decided to take pictures of the Dresden plate, I'm afraid I'd lost all sunlight, so the pictures aren't quite so nice, but you can still tell what's going on.
Here's the dresden plate, with the center (not attached yet), all laid on top of the background fabric! fun fun! I'm going to end up appliqueing the fans/plate to the background blocks, but I've never done that before. Does anyone have any tips on applique? It quite overwhelming to me right now...and I don't really know where to start. Thanks everyone! <3 |
You are doing great. It's going to look beautiful. How did you do the center circle?
ranger |
Can't help with the applique... But you are doing AWESOME ! I love the look of the Dresden plate and it looks like you nailed it
|
ranger - well, it's not attached yet - but the teacher said we were using the "Eleanor Burns' method" (I'm sure I spelled her name wrong). But you just cut a circle in the fabric you're using, and cut the same shape in fusible interfacing. Place the interfacing and fabric, right sides together, and then sew a quarter inch seam. Cut a small hole in the back of the interfacing, and turn out the fabric, so the interfacing is ready to be ironed down, and so the right side of the fabric is facing up. Does that make any sense? Then, after finger pressing the shape, we just plop it over the center of the dresden plate, and iron it down, then tack over it with a run stitch or applique stitch.
I hope that makes sense? and thanks sharon! :) |
OMG, you are doing GREAT! Those blocks are so enticing! ha. Love those 30's looks in quilts. And another quilter is born.....
