Hi,

This quilt is 54x72 and a nice size lap quilt for my aunt. I'm trying to decide if I should add a border to it or not. What are your thoughts?

I would add a double border to give it a more finished look.

I always think a border finishes a quilt off nicely. I love the colors in your quilt. Your aunt will love it.

Julianna 10-24-2010 10:11 AM

Yes, a double border would be very nice. choose two of the colors to blend.

wolfkitty 10-24-2010 10:12 AM

I would add a border, to finish it off and frame it up. A double border would look nice, too.

UglyCook 10-24-2010 10:13 AM

I'd put a striped border on it, something that pulls all the colors in.

finch 10-24-2010 10:14 AM

Yes.I think it could use a double border also.

sewmein 10-24-2010 10:17 AM

I vote yes for that absolutely beautiful quilt. Your aunt will love it.

So, this may seem like a goofy question, what size should the borders be if I go with the double border?

Dollysquiltingmom 10-24-2010 10:23 AM

Yes I would add 2 also.

KathyAire 10-24-2010 10:25 AM

That is very pretty. I agree, it needs a border to look complete.

n2scraplvr 10-24-2010 10:25 AM

The size of the borders need to balance these large blocks. Anything smaller would look lost. I would do an inner border of the mauve you used, then 5 or 6 inch border of the blue you used, then a final mauve of 3 or let the binding be mauve of 3. Whatever you choose, it will look beautiful! :-D :-D A striped border also would help minimize and tone it down. ;-)

Thanks for all your input. I kept looking at it and wondering what is the best option. So, I decided to come to my friends on the quilt board. You all always have such great input. Thanks for checking it out and weighing in.

Nice choice of colors and pattern in your quilt. Anyone would be happy to own it! What do you think about borders being added. Trust your instincts....lay some fabs around it and go with what appeals to you. Auditioning different styles, widths and colors will tell the story! Have fun with this and please be sure to post pictures so we can see finished top! Very nice!

I would definitely add a border.

That is a beautiful quilt. It does seem to call for a border though. Let us know what you decide.

SueDor 10-24-2010 11:52 AM

Yes it should have a border.

Ditter43 10-24-2010 12:01 PM

Neat design! I like it! Show us what you decide! :D

I'd like to see a band of the blue, about the width of the wide end of the blue wedge. If the size is already "just right", it might be too big with more than that. Maybe use one of the red-violets to bind it.

sewingladydi 10-24-2010 05:43 PM

I vote for a border (or 2)

That's totally up to you. I'd love to see a double border as well, using the pink fabric and the darker plum that's in the small squares. Make the inner border half the width of the outer border, so if your outer border is 4" wide, make the inner border 2".
That way you can always trim it back if you think it's too much.
"There are no quilt police" so go nuts!

Thanks all. I appreciate the feedback. Will post when it's done. :D

sawsan 10-24-2010 10:12 PM

Ditto!!

Mariposa 10-25-2010 04:56 AM

I'd do 2 borders: one accent (small), then a larger one to finish things off.

Murphy 10-25-2010 10:24 AM

I always add a border (even if it is small) to make it look finished - IMHO.

jljack 10-25-2010 03:41 PM

Yes, I think it needs something lighter, like to match the pink print. Or a print with all the colors of the blocks. I like that block pattern...very interesting!
