I have used the silver Berol pencils all the time to mark quilting lines and they always come out with washing. Don't have any suggestions about washing and bleeding fabric because I always pre wash my fabric.

Try Tide Stain Release liquid in the squirt bottle for your pencil marks. Works for me. And get a color grabber sheet for your bleeding fabrics. Haven't used it myself, but others recommend it. Be sure to wash on cold and gentle. Dry gently on warm with more than one cycle if needed.

Thanks. I appreciate all the help. I googled Aunt Martha to see if there is still a company and found they still sell the same Lone Star pre-cut top. Its $28.95!! It says the pieces are polycotton blend, preshrunk, but does not say pre-washed!! Its called "Vintage Lone Star now! lol!

If it's poly-cotton, you might be safe on the bleeding issue!

IMHO this is a hand quilted piece and marking comes with it. I personally do not sweat it if the marking does not come out. It is the hallmark of handwork and a stamp of authenticity when so many things are mass produced. Not that I want my marking to be permanent, but if it does not budge, I just let it be.

I use one of those gummy erasers I make baptismal gown and 1st communion dresses andmake all my own lace I use the silver to mark on the satin or taffata so I know where all the lace and ribbon roses and ribbons and if the gummy erasers get the marks off those it should off cottons the 1st communion dress I am working on now the taffata was 26dollars a yd and the satin was 28 dolllars a yd. if they didn't work it would ruin the gowns. try on a scrap first and draw very light.I know that helps I hope it works well for you.
good luck
