Singer 8500Q

What does any one know about this machine that JoAnn's is having on sale,,, the Singer 8500Q. Any help will be thankful for. Thanks

I couldn't find any reviews online, hopefully someone here has practical experience with it.

this is Joann's page

I can't see anywhere the harp size is mentioned, that looks like a table runner in their photo.

It has all the things I require in a modern machine and at that price you should be getting a good machine.
Any brand can have a lemon, and since there don't seem to be any reviews online, seems like you would be good to go.

My question would be where you will get it serviced or warranty repairs? I'm guessing you'd have to mail it back to singer for warranty stuff?
Is there a shop where you live that services all makes? I took my Janome, and then my Featherweight in to the shop here in Longview and they only service the brand they carry. I didn't hurry back to shop their fabric store, left me with a sour taste...

Decided it is a NO GO.... Keep looking and saving for one that has a bigger throat and go do quilting. Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't buy ANY new Singer but would gladly buy an old one. If you're looking for a low cost machine, the Janome and Brother have a fairly good reputation.

No new Singers for me either, my old ones are terrific for piecing, and I machine quilt on a Juki with huge throat space.

That doesn't surprise me. A few of the local quilt shops here carry a particular brand of machine and only service that brand. The technicians who service the machines have to be certified to service that brand and the shop has to stock parts for all the different models.
