Here's a preview of a new group that's in the works by Moda. A *lot* of the fabric manufacturers have coffee-themed fabrics right now... this one is by Deb Strain. She did the "Bistro" group a couple of years ago.

This collection also includes orange. I'm so used to the red-brown-black-beige colors for "coffee fabrics" that I really don't know what to make of this orange tone. What do YOU think?

thequilterslink 08-13-2010 04:24 AM

interesting, love the brown/blue combo's

Very nice indeed! It seems there are quite a few fabric collections with a coffee theme. Does anyone know of any with a "tea" theme - tea pots and cups and saucers, for example.

Love the dots, the geometric patterns, and colors but not so much the coffee prints. I guess my distaste for coffee runs deep :-) Thanks for showing these to us can't wait till they get to the LQS.

Hmmm... I didn't much care for coffee, either, until I started working at an office where the only thing they offered us for free was coffee. Loaded up with enough milk and sugar, I learned to like it!

jbud2 08-13-2010 05:17 AM

I knew I saw 'tea' fabric somewhere! Now I have to find it when it comes out. Thank you!

Go to this website and put in your state and it will show you what shops carry their fabrics!

If the picture is true to color, it's not bad. Looks like a cup o' joe with cream in it. But a little of this goes a long way, in my humble opinion.

SharonAnne 08-13-2010 05:48 AM

I can probably count on both hands and toes the number of cups of coffee I have had in my long life - less than 20 I'd say. Tea, however, is my passion, and I love the tea fabric posted.

Sooz - I did that and guess what!!!!! I found 2 new sources for fabric within 10 minutes of me. Never knew they were there... Awesome. Thanks. SharonAnne

A little bit of orange goes a long way. The orange is way too dominant . I would not purchase.
Maybe it just reminds me too much of the Burnt Orange phase of the 70's. I guess sometimes if you lived through it the first time , you do not need to have it the second time it comes around.
But I like "harvest gold and avacado green".

Favorite Fabrics 08-13-2010 07:44 AM

Maybe I should have mentioned... for those of you who like the tea fabrics, my shop will be carrying the ones that I posted pictures of plus a few more. Not the entire collection, but all the "feature" ones.

I think Debbie Mumm has some at JoAnn's.

DITTO! Glad to see they thought about us "tea drinkers"!!

You're right... she does. The colors are brighter, though, with lime green and turquoise and chestnut brown. Deb Strain seems to choose slightly more subtle colors, and both this and her last coffee group had a lot of red-brown-beige-blacks in them.

I'm pretty unimaginative (or just too realistic) so I will probably always need to have brown be a major color player, if the theme is coffee!

littlehud 08-13-2010 06:37 PM

I made my DD a coffee quilt. I wish this fabric was around then.

Favorite Fabrics 08-14-2010 07:18 AM

It seems that one season, there are lots of coffee fabrics... and then none for quite a while. Same thing with music fabrics; one year they were everywhere and then there was "a drought". Maybe one maker comes out with a theme group, and then if response is good, all the other manufacturers copy their idea. (I've been told that there's a lot of copying that goes on in the fabric world...)

ToucanSam 08-14-2010 07:25 AM

I wish Moda, as much as I like them, would break out of their tendency to use the same color schemes over and over.

Cute fabric, but not my style.

dglvr 08-14-2010 07:29 AM

Great and I said I wouldn't buy anymore fabric til I got some projects done. I love all of it. I think my favorite is the panel with teas fabrics. I better get busy. Crankn' up the a/c's.

We don't have JoAnn's here. I have been doing some searching on the 'net and I'm sure I'll come across something that will fit the bill. I'm looking for traditional cup and saucers and tea pots - very old-fashioned like my grandmother used to use.

very nice fabric
