I made this shirt for my Mom. Her Birthday is tomorrow. The snowflakes are actually names of her husband (my Dad), her children, and her grandchildren. This is the first time that I have embroideried on a sweatshirt and I learned alot. There are a few mistakes but I gave it to her tonight and she loved it. I told her that I'd make her a new one now that I know what I'm doing and she said no way.

That looks very nice!!! How did you come up with the idea of making snowflakes with names? Was it hard to do?

beachlady 10-08-2008 04:32 PM

That is so neat! Love it.

FancyFoot 10-08-2008 04:50 PM

That is so cool.

ccbear66 10-08-2008 05:26 PM

Thanks everyone. I belong to a yahoo group a design in stitches and she has over 2000 names digitized in snowflakes, flowers and santa's. You have to belong to her group to be able to download them but they are free. Here is a link to the site and you can join her group from there.

Wow, that's amazing! I've never embroidered anything before... so this is going to be a really newbie question, but... when you get the pattern from her group, what do you do with it? Is it something you use with a computerized embroidery/sewing machine?

ccbear66 10-08-2008 06:15 PM

Yes, you have to have a computerized embroidery machine. I just have a cheap Brother machine that I got at Walmart and I have really loved it. There is just so much that you can do with it. When I bought it I thought that I would probably only do quilt labels but boy was I wrong. I have about worn it out making gifts.

ceannastahr 10-08-2008 06:29 PM

how long did it take for them to send a password

mgshaw 10-08-2008 07:37 PM

Great job!!!

grammax4 10-08-2008 09:10 PM

Beautiful! I've seen the snowflakes designs but never stitched out. Your little Brother does a good job! I always have trouble with putting the designs on sweatshirts.

ScubaK 10-08-2008 09:33 PM

That is very nice and I love it!

Hi, I use an iron on stabalizer on the bottom and a sulky Solvy on top as it is washable and never have a problem doing my embroidery. Marge

After you sign up just go into the files section of that group and it has the password there. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll send it to you.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Mom really likes the shirt a lot. I'm going to do the snowflake names on black kitchen towels and use gold matalic thread for christmas gifts this year. I'll post a pic of them later. I'm also going to make a throw for a friend with all of her family's names on it. I just love these snowflake names.

jankuhl 10-13-2008 01:29 PM

such a great idea. about that machine--- was it super pricey??? i am not interested in $1000s prices.

ccbear66 10-13-2008 02:21 PM

You can pick up a Brother at Walmart for under $500. I picked my up on clearance because it was last years model for under $300. Mine is also a sewing machine. I mainly got it for a back up machine and I thought that i would probably only use it for quilt labels. Man was I wrong. I have used it a lot. Mine only has a 4x4 hoop. My next one will have a bigger hoop. It has been a great starter machine.

jankuhl 10-13-2008 02:25 PM

thanks for getting back so quickly. will talk to santa early! :D

ccbear66 10-13-2008 02:34 PM

Good luck. I hope that Santa gets one for you. You will love it. All of my gift that I'm giving this year are going to be homemade. I you do get it and have any questions just ask. I'll do my best to help.

jbsstrawberry 10-13-2008 08:45 PM

Ohhh now that is simply awesome!!! What a great gift for mom!!!

bluebird 10-13-2008 08:46 PM

No wonder she said no, that is beautiful :!: Your mom will proudly wear her special shirt. :D
