I hand quilted for years without a hoop just make sure you pin or baste really well and keep checking the back so you don't get puckering or tucks. I still find it easier to quilt in my lap just can't get use to the hoop. Just don't have enough coordination I guess.
Love the quilt top

I hand quilt in my lap with a large (width wise) hoop. In fact, I have 2 sizes one is 10 inches and the other 12 inches., the reason being I am short armed so its easier to hold the 10 inch one. The width is a good inch to inch and a 1/4. Its heavy plastic, from JoAnn's and has a groove in one ring and a ridge in the other which helps hold all the layers in place. The quilt can't be too tight or too loose but you need to make sure the back is smooth (without puckers). I always start in the center and work outwards - there is a lot of info on how to get started if you just look for it.
Good Luck!

I have hand quilted for 25 years with an oval hoop, I am hoping it lasts the distance with me :) The quilt looks great by the way

Awesome quilt. Just try to quilt little sections at a time. You did a wonderful job so don't be intimidated.

Well I can't help you with the hand quilting part because I tried hand quilting on a pratice lap quilt and showed it to my sister and she started laughing and said that the stitches were so long you would get your toes caught in them..... LOL She didn't say it to be mean. So I told her that anything I wanted hand quilted I would let her do it...LOL

Beautiful quilt top :D:D:D
You may have difficulty quilting it if you use the birthing method. Fleece stretches and it could end up being bunched up on the back. This can happen even with cotton backing :( Most tie the quilts when using this method
You may want to sandwich, quilt and bind it instead :D:D:D
