Last year some time, I picked up this unfinished quilt top at a garage sale. They threw in some coordinating fabric with which to finish it. I finally got around to finishing it today.

This quilt isn't something I'm especially thrilled with; for starters, it is made with 50/50 polyester. It has a sort of hard feel to it, not soft like cotton. I decided to use it as practice. I recently got a mid-arm quilting machine and frame, so I used the garage sale quilt as the guinea pig, so to speak. The back is a sheet.

I started out using a design on paper, following the design with a laser pointer from behind the machine. This was rather tedious, as I am a little taller than average and hunching over was killing my back, so about halfway through I changed to freehand meandering. Things went much more quickly after that. I know I still need a lot of practice, but I did learn a lot from this quilt. Now the only question is, what do I do with it?

How about donating it to a woman's refuge shelter?

Donate it to victims form the storms/flooding. I think it has pretty colors and looks very nice. It served its purpose for you to practice quilting and now it can serve as a quilt.

those type of practice quilts i have done usually wind up being the grandkids play blankets- they have picnics on them, make great forts, drag them everywhere (safely out of site from the quilt police so they don't get yelled at)
the 50/50 poly fabric wears like steel- they make great play blankets.
