Each year our guild send quilts to either deployed or wounded soldiers. Here are two that will go overseas. They are both scrappy and a lot of fun to to do. Has anyone made the second one? Please don't look close the points don't all meet. Can't understand cuz I took such care to get the fabrics lined up, one time they are perfect and the next way off. Maybe you can tell me what I did wrong - because I would like to make another one someday. Thanks.

Bless you for doing this :) as far as telling you what you did wrong (points not matching on 2nd one) I cant tell from the picture. It looks great.

Your quilts are beautiful!!! and the soldiers will love them. The other day I saw a clip on AFN (American Forces Network) about soldiers getting quilts in Afghanistan. They really do appreciate them!!!

Personally, I think you did a great job with both of these quilts! Honestly, I can't not imagine one serviceman/servicewoman who would turn away a quilt just because the points weren't perfectly matched. Pat your self on the back for gifting your love, time and beautiful quilts! :)

You did a beautiful job and thank you for helping out our service men and women with your gifts of warmth and comfort .

I love both of these quilts they are great. The second one is just lovely. I do know that on many of the patterns for those strip pieced quilts, the strips in the assembled units are not supposed to match up. I know Kaffe Fasset has a pattern like that and they aren't supposed to line up. It adds to the visual interest of the quilt. So you probably didn't do anything wrong.

butterflywing 05-05-2011 06:35 AM

on string quilts, unless every string is exactly the same width as every other string, it's not possible for the strings to match up.

if you go to the heartstrings website, you can see that unless she diddles the designs around, hers don't either.

As the wife of a soldier and mother-in-law of another one, I just want to say a personal "Thank you!" and also that I think both quilts are beautiful.
