I used to volunteer for art literacy at my sons' school. When we did the unit on quilting, every class did this. All the quilts were donated in the end. A really fun project.

Those children must have been in their glory. Wait until you see their faces when it's hung. If the parents come in this will be one of the first things they will show them.
Creative and joyous.

The kids will remember this forever. What a great teacher you are. My fourth grade teacher taught us girls how to knit. I love to knit and I think of her when ever I knit or talk about it. You have a kind heart.

ART will set the heart free!

pjnesler 05-29-2011 07:32 AM

Wonderful teaching on the sly project, many kids will never know anything about sewing and creativity unless someone like yourself opens the door to them. Special - needs or not, you never know where the first inspiration is created.

Today I took in my featherweight and did a little piecing demonstration. They really enjoyed seeing their square get sewn into the top. We still have a couple of days of school after Memorial Day, so I'll hang it up for our little classroom "promotion" ceremony. FUN day!!

What a great project! And I really admire the teachers of special needs students. We may not always tell you, but you are really appreciated by the parents.
