I need to have this quilt done for a birthday party on the 19th. I am giving it to my MIL for taking us on an Alaskan Cruise (her b-day is the 8th) I have been studying it for the last week and still have not come up with a plan. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Hmmmmm those are not the pictures I selected!!! How did that happen? These are pictures of my daughter and her husband and my daughter and her father when we picked her up at the airport as she returned from Iraq on Wednesday. I posted them somewhere else earlier today.
Why did they show up again?

I don't know what is going on..... it gave me the same pictures again....

Jim's Gem 09-04-2009 12:27 PM

Now the first pictures have changed. This is weird, sorry everyone.

I see quilts so you must have got the pics fixed.

What about a wavy line straight down the middle, then echo it all the way across both sides. That might feel like a cruise and would be really easy. Well easy for those of you that can fmq! :-)

One of the ladies that I sew with did stitching on the diagonal, but with a wavy stitch selected. It came out really pretty. Maybe that would work.

Vicki's idea gets my vote! I've done the stitch in the ditch around pictures then did a wavy line through the background. It anchors the pictures and makes the rest look like the waving water.

Try drawing it with chalk to see if you'll like the look. I love love love the quilt.

Please give your daughter a hug from this Army Mom and tell her I said Thank You! God Bless our military!

Hugs,
Sharon

I still see the people! No quilts!

Congratulations on having a daughter who is serving her country. Thank her for us.

I don't know what this is doing. I have a post in the PDA section talking about my daughters return. When I posted a quilt on here it changed the picture there. I went back to that one and put her picture back and it changed the picture here.
I need to get this quilt done but am at a loss on the quilting, so of course I am working on my fall block exchange
Let me try again.

I first want to say a big thank you to your daughter, her husband and YOU and your family!!!

I like Vicki's idea on the quilting, also.
Your MIL's quilt is beautiful!!!

Jim's Gem 09-05-2009 12:40 PM

Ok so, you think a wavy diagonal stitch. Across the whole quilt? only across the watery part, across including the windows of animals. Both directions or only one? I'm not sure I am picturing this.

sewjoyce 09-05-2009 12:53 PM

Beautiful daughter! So glad she's home safe and sound!!

And beautiful quilt! I always end up doing SID on any that I machine quilt but I'm whatever you decide will look great!

I notice that the file names on your two sets of pictures are the same. I think that's causing the confusion as to which one gets displayed. You might PM admin and ask him to look at the problem.

Jim's Gem 09-05-2009 02:32 PM

They are in the correct places at the moment, except you have to scroll down on this one to see the quilt. I am not going to mess with it anymore. I think I redid these pictures 4 times yesterday.

Gayle, I'm just glad "to get" to see your daughter upon
her arrival home. She is beautiful and I am so thankful
she is here safe and sound. Tell her thanks for me!

vicki reno 09-05-2009 03:21 PM

I think I would do the wavy lines across the whole quilt on the diagonal in a matching or invisible thread. I think it would look really sharp, but it's your project, so think on it a while.

sewjoyce 09-05-2009 03:59 PM

What's the name of the pattern??? I saw some train fabric the other day for hubby that would look perfect in that pattern. (Hubby is retired engineer and I've yet to make him a quilt.... )

Don't be sorry for posting those pics. Tell that brave daughter Thanks, from the bottom of my heart. We appreciate what she is doing for us and for our country.

Whew! I thought I was going bonkers. I was still seeing pictures of people. At last I see a quilt. That is really pretty. I don't have a clue how you would quilt it.

stitchinMamaw 09-07-2009 07:51 AM

Best wishes to you and your daughter ! I am so glad she came back home ok . Big thank you from all of us !

You quilt is beautiful . I just love wildlife quilts ! Was that a panel or just different pieces . The eagle on the branch really caught my eye . I can't find any fabric with eagles on it . As for the quilting I have no idea . Annie

gramysews 09-07-2009 08:54 AM

Gayle,
I don't have any suggestions for the quilting but your quilt is beautiful and so is your family! I want to thank them and you for making it easier for us to feel safe here in our great country. Bless you all.

Thank you!

I bought this as a kit while on an Alaskan Cruise. They are individual pieces of fabric. I ended up replacing about 5 of the focus fabrics cause there was not a good variety.
I have several fabrics with eagles. My daughter who went to Iraq loves Eagles and so I have collected several different ones to use in a quilt for her ( I have 4 kids and I collected fabrics for each of their 2 favorite animals, eagles, horses, dolphins, killer whales, polar bears, sharks & wolves (2 like wolves)) I have not made anything with them yet, though I finished collecting about 4 years ago, which make the fabrics 4-8 years old. A large project for some day!!

I may be jumping the gun a little.. I posted pictures, of my newest quilt, with only 4 block's.. Anyhow, I've got 3 row's sewed together, and thought might as well post what I have done already.. I've became more excited, now, so I cant wait until I get the other 3 row's done.. I'm just now getting 8 block's pinned, so I'll be able to get them sewed tomorrow.. I've got my 2 chihuahua here with me now, and typing with my right hand only. Chico is on my lap, and Minnie, holding her in my left arm.. Anyhow every take care, and again WELCOME to the newer members. Don--isewman1

My 3 row' sewed together, already.

Chico and Minnie sitting together in front of my house. Not very often do they sit together. They do play together by chasing each other,

Don -- very nice quilt!! And a friend of mine has a black puppy almost like yours....

Jim's Gem 09-07-2009 07:01 PM

Your quilt looks great Don!!!!

However do you realize that you posted it on a thread that I have? You may not get very many looks at your quilt and message cause this has been on here a couple of days. I don't mind, but you man want to repost with a new topic thread!
