I have a bug, can't sew, can't drive to LQS, but looking thru' my Q. Scrapbooks to find pictures takes my mind off it. I've been meaning to post pictures, so here I go.
1- 50th Anniversary Quilt for Mom and Dad, 1988. Machine-pieced, hand quilted. Center = Arizona where they lived at the time; left side= South Dakota where they were both born and raised on homesteads - Mom was born in a sod house, later taught in 1 room schoolhouses in the Black Hills and the one where Dad went grades 1-8; 3=California where we moved when I was 2 1/2. The rainbow+ Rainbow Pier in Long Beach - the town I grew up in. They moved from there to Tucson in '78. DH and I use this quilt now that M & D are gone. I think of them every time I look at it. 2- baby quilt - first thing I made when I retired VERY early in '85. Machine pieced, hand quilted. 3. Cousin's daughter Megan's quilt, 1990. Machine pieced, hand quilted. Prairied points on outside. Not used - put away in a drawer - sigh. I make 'em to be used! 1.My niece Laura's baby quilt, 1975. Hand embroidered in the outside border "We have two gifts for our children: roots to grow and wings to fly." Her father was my DH's youngest brother. The WHOLE family (dad, mom, 3 brothers) flew! 2. Laura's wedding quilt, 2005. "Love on the Baseball Field" She and Scott met playing adult baseball. Quilting motifs are baseballs and musical notes, because of their huge CD collection. I included fabric from DH's mom's dresses. 3. Laura's and Scott's daughter, Grace's quilt, 2007. Mother Goose pictures. The checkerboard border is from a favorite Mother Goose book of my kids that's still in print that I gave with the quilt. Grace's baby quilt! I love seeing your quilts!!!
I just love the one made for your parents and the story behind it! |

These 2 are wedding quilts made for college classmates of my daughter. The Red and Blue, a Margaret Miller inspired design, is called 'Big Game' because the bride and groom are from rival colleges, and 'Beat Cal' is hand quilted in the border. Made in 1993 when I was still hand quilting. The other looks like a Parcheesi board to me, but it's Georgia Bonesteel's 'Mother's Amish Dream' - another fom '93 when I was still handquilting |
All three are wonderful but that first one is AWESOME!! I love it and the little story with it.

So sorry to hear that you have not been well; I hope that you are feeling better soon.
Your work is lovely. I posted on a different thread how much I liked the kaleidoscope quilt, and asked if it was hand or machine quilted; now I see that you have hand quilted it. The one you did for your folks is also very nice. What a special way to tie the stages of their lives together! |
They are all so wonderful. Thanks for sharing the memories. :)

WOW!! Loving the quilt show. You are a wonderful quilter.
I can't even pick a favorite, but if I had to, I do like the one you made for your parents maybe a smidge best, because of that pretty sky. |
when you come to visit me, be sure to bring the quilts. i want to show them where they'll be living. especially the anniversary quilt. i'm married 48 years in february, so do i get to keep it in two more years?
i really do love them all, but the history of the anniversary quilt makes that one extra special. |
