I worked on the red work, while flying back and forth to AZ. Dad was in the hospital, then rehab. Flew back home. He went back in the hospital. Flew back down. I worked on this on the plane, at airports, at the hospital, at rehab, and at the folks house.

Unfortunately Dad passed away on July 22nd, he was 82. I had only a block and half to finish. I will be naming it "Memories with Daddy", the memories of growing up over the years and the memories of the saddest months.

grammy Dwynn 10-07-2009 04:57 AM

Thanks for the hugs and condolences' and thank you for the kudos.

Putting together this wall hanging was therapy. I remember when at rehab with Dad, he was looking at the months that were completed. He said that I am a very good sewer. I have made the folks quilts over the years and Dad is always impressed. He has done woodwork projects, so he understands craftsmanship. Having him see my passion and truly appreciate the work I (WE) put in, make my heart feel warm. But it also breaks that I will not be able to share it with him any more.

Hunnib 10-07-2009 09:25 AM

So sorry about your Dad. My best friend lost hers recently too. I love the quilt. There is certainly something to be said for redwork done by hand versus the machine redwork that I have done recently. The blocks are gorgeous!

joeyoz 10-07-2009 09:28 AM

Dwynn, it looks awesome. Love it.

First, my sympathies on the loss of your father, I lost my beloved father suddenly this summer as well. I had just completed a lap quilt for him for his birthday, which would of been two days after his death. I didn't know what to do with the quilt. My mom asked for it a few days after his birthday and I gladly gave it to her.

Your quilt is beautiful and I know that it will bring comfort both physically and emotionally to you as time goes on.

jacquemoe 10-08-2009 05:22 PM

The redwork is just beautifully done and the quilt is beautiful. I'm so sorry you had to go through that with your father. He's at peace now and so I hope you are too.

kwhite 10-08-2009 05:26 PM

I made a quilt too while taking care of my mother with cancer. It is therapeutic. You did a wonderful job.
