I played all Easter morning--just trying all sorts of things. I really like some of these...others I'd have to tweak. Some are ruled out already. But--a few asked me to post these lay outs....so here you go!

Remember--I'm not paying any attention to flowers/colors yet. The big sunflowers do seem to stop the flow in places--so I may decide to leave those out.

I'll repost the first ones so you don't have to hunt them up--but not #3 since it was so close to #1.

Boy--the sun really makes a difference in the color.

#2 I like this one, but not the corners, so I could make corners like are in #6. :D

#4 (there's no 3 now and I wanted to keep track with my photo labels  )

#10 I can see a need for a few adjustments here--to round off two areas facing the center--see what I mean?

#11 I just switched the four center blocks for the these one.

Wow, I don't know how you will decide, but it is gorgeous, makes me want to do a log cabin.

mgshaw 04-13-2009 07:59 AM

I really like #2, it almost looks like a big flower in the center. #5 is pretty cool too! I havent seen alot of these layouts before.

Debbie1 04-13-2009 08:12 AM

That's a hard one to decide. Whatever you decide it will be goregous! I love your fabric choices!

barnbum 04-13-2009 08:14 AM

#6 reminds me of a pebble dropped in a puddle--well, let's make it a lake. :D

Melissa--I've always used El Burns Log Cabin books for lay out options, but the Judy Martin Log Cabin book had many many more. And I've only tried a few.

gangles 04-13-2009 08:26 AM

Layout #10 was my final choice, but 6,8, and 9 were close. I'm not sure if I could stick to one choice!

Mountainquilter 04-13-2009 08:31 AM

That is beautiful!

Jim's Gem 04-13-2009 08:33 AM

They all look so pretty. I like 5, 6 & 10 #5 gives is a swirl kinda look. that's different. Whatever you choose will be beautiful.

lfw045 04-13-2009 09:00 AM

I really like #5 because of the swirl effect! Whatever you decide it will be beautiful!

pittsburgpam 04-13-2009 09:15 AM

Those are all great, I've never seen some of them. I like #5 too. Is there a link to all these layouts? I have plans for a LC in pastels for spring for my bedroom.

drivin*me*buggy 04-13-2009 10:55 AM

My favs are #2 and #9 and 10 I think...gosh they are all so pretty :)

SulaBug 04-13-2009 11:00 AM

They are all so pretty, that I can't make a choice!! :D Whatever one you decide to use, will be very beautiful. Have fun deciding!! :D :D :D

I love log cabins they are so versitile and simple to make. All of your layouts would make a lovely quilt. I'm glad I don't have to make the decision. I just might have to make one now.

2 Doods 04-13-2009 12:14 PM

Yup! Too hard to decide. Looks like you need to make more blocks so you can do them ALL!

RedGarnet222 04-13-2009 12:36 PM

I really am amazed at how many of them I like. I think number 2 is my favorite of all though.

I kind of like the sunflowers in there. Even though it breaks things up, it gives it a little umph that is cool.

BEAUTIFUL!!!

My fav so far is #5

Harmony 04-14-2009 06:43 AM

I like #6 because the design kind of look like a flower!

thismomquilts 04-14-2009 06:46 AM

i like one and two

ranger 04-14-2009 07:07 AM

You have some beautiful layouts there. I love the colors!!

I like2,5, and6---#2 is my fav. I think the sunflowers would be nice in #2 if you put a few more blocks with SFs in the bottom of the swirly circle part and in the corners of the quilt top,----and maybe? one in each side--- but maybe leave them out of the 4 center blocks.Clear as mud???

Whatever you decide, it's going to be a wonderful quilt.Looking forward to seeing the finished project.

i think your first instincts were right. i like all of the first ones more than any of this batch, but it's hard to tell what they look like in person.

if you don't have a cat or dog to make the decision for you, borrow one.

k3n 04-14-2009 10:49 AM

I agree with butterflywing - I think I still prefer the layouts from the first post you did BUT I do like 2 and I think like you say with different corners, it could be great!

I think you're right about leaving the sunflowers out. Maybe, they're just not proportioned to the other printed flowers. I would leave the other yellow flower print in though. Whatever you decide it will be quite lovely.

Justquilting 04-14-2009 12:22 PM

Wow, too hard to decide...They all look nice!! I love the log cabin. You can do so many designs with them. It's hard to choose just one!!

GiGi 04-14-2009 03:08 PM

My choices: 1,4,5,8,9. GREAT Job!!! GiGi :D :D :D :D

sandpat 04-14-2009 03:17 PM

Oh Karla...you do like to make the hard decisions don't you??? I like lots of these and I'm not sure you can really go "wrong". I like the thought of wandering aimlessly through a garden, so I think I like #2.

Whichever one you decide will be gorgeous and I'm thinking you'll just have to make a second one to try another of those pretty layouts!

Shemjo 04-14-2009 03:48 PM

What fun! They are all great!

sewaholic 04-14-2009 04:00 PM

You will just have to keep making blocks and do them all.

ambquilter 04-17-2009 05:40 AM

I like #5. It has alot of motion. They all do but #5 catches my eye the MOST.

omak 04-17-2009 06:59 AM

Hope I am not too late! Am not sure how I lost this track, but here goes!
I was one who wanted two ... and the idea of the #6 corners were exactly what I had in mind ... so, with that in mind, I have a question!
I counted 56 block layout. Is that the total number of blocks you need?
And, I think the sunflowers do add that "surprise element" - - but, I think I already said that <G>

barnbum 04-17-2009 07:08 AM

Hi omak--I will be using a lot more than 56 squares. Those lay outs are for 64, but I'm thinking somewhere around 10x12...maybe. I haven't gotten that far yet. I've been too busy on other stuff to work much on squares... but maybe today or this weekend.... also, my head is foggy from mare stare and I'm afraid of making mistakes.

Marcia 04-17-2009 07:09 PM

Wow--I had NO idea there were that many possible ways to lay out a log cabin. What a fun project!! I love all the layouts and could not even begin to choose.

Janstar 04-17-2009 07:33 PM

I don't know how you are going to select just one setting. They are all interesting. Whatever you decide , it's going to be absolutely gorgeous!!

I haven't been following your mare stare thread, but it must be what happens when my cows are ready to calve (but, horses are more intense, no doubt!)
Anyway .. I have been thinking about your sunflowers .... you must find them rather startling, but since I am so old, startling is a good thing, in my mind <g> ... many have commented on them, and maybe you aren't comfortable with them? I was wondering .... they all seem to be in the same place in the blocks ... so <g> since you are going to be making MORE blocks ... what would happen if you moved them to different spots in the next blocks .... OR <g>
I thought maybe you could put all the SF blocks together for an accent and build the rest of the form around those ... however many there are ... I am just intrigued at all that you have shown!
On my way to start pulling florals to start cutting strips ... I want a quilt like yours!
And, have been looking at everyone's sewing rooms... have to shop for cabinets and build myself a ladder! Am so enjoying this list and contributors!

Mamagus 04-18-2009 04:16 AM

Beautiful, Karla!

yeah the big sunflower has to go, but I'd spend the time hooking out that piece and replacing them... you're so close to haveing enough blocks!!!

I like #2!

tarib 04-18-2009 05:31 AM

Karla

As much as I love sunflowers, it does seem to stand out from the other flowers.... You must have gone crazy setting those up in all those different ways...they are all beautiful, glad I don't have to make the final decision....Make sure you post the final project...can't wait to see what you end up with...any one of them will be perfect.

barnbum 04-18-2009 05:36 AM

I will make many squares--for I do want to make more than one project--but the others will be wall hangings. So--the sunflowers will go somewhere... I think they looks fine in #1, but not the rest.

I wish I could work on them more--but only got one strip sewed on the next batch yesterday--I haven't even cut them apart yet. :? But, happily, part of the joy of quilting is I have no deadlines!! :D This will be in progress for a while longer.

Arleners 04-19-2009 11:35 AM

They are all beautiful, but # 2 really talks to me. However, I know what you mean about the corners.
Decisions, Decisions!
