I made this last year for my son. He is in his 30's and his fav color has been purple since he was young. He didn't like the light, said the are lavendar and old lady! LOL!! The good thing is he still loves it and has it on the top of his bed---back side up!!!!! When he was little, I called him Douger-do. Some of his cousins still call him Douger and joked around when they saw what I put on the back.

What a special quilt! You know he treasures it!

SulaBug 01-29-2009 03:00 PM

How nice, I just love the quilt & the colors that you have chosen to make it with.

kd124 01-29-2009 06:01 PM

Thank you everyone. You all are so nice.

Izy--He said he gets teased by his friends when they see the Douger-Do, but he could always put his blanket over the quilt.

Quilting G and Candi-- yes it is machine embroidry using a baby lock embroidry machine. We put it directly on the backing.

Great quilt!

How did you embroider on the back? Did you do it before you sandwiched it or quilt most of it then embroider and go back and finish quilting it?

I'm always afraid of 'missing' my mark.

The pattern is from a book I borrowed . I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the book. The quilt in the book is called stars and stripes. It is in blues and white with blue strip border. Sorry I can't be more help.

Nice quilt and I love the back the way you signed it.

kd124 01-30-2009 10:03 PM

Thank you for the compliments. I am lucky that my kids and grandkids all appreciate whatever I make for them, especially my son.

Sorry about the size of my last post. I don't know what happened. I just noticed it now and it won't let me edit it.

Celeste 01-30-2009 10:31 PM

When I read his favorite color, I thought "Donny Osmond".

Very nice quilt!

Quilt4u 01-31-2009 04:26 AM

Very nice. I love it.

kd124 02-04-2009 07:22 PM

I realized there was probably info under the pic about the quilt. Sure enough; it says 1860's four patch pieced and quilted by Harriet Hargrave. Maybe if you google her name, you can find the directions.

kd24: Your quilts are so lovely. It looks like you've made a bunch of quilts as your work looks flawless. Beautiful and I like your quilting and label, too. Thanks for sharing.

sewjoyce 03-31-2009 07:41 AM

Very nice! If your son ever decides he doesn't want it, send it to ME!

Debbie1 03-31-2009 05:37 PM

I can see why he's proud of the quilt - great quilting and pattern! Love it!

kd124 04-01-2009 10:19 AM

Thank you all. :-)

Feathers--my quilts have many flaws, but the love I put into them make up for the flaws. LOL (actually-I usually do a lot of ripping before saying enough-I give up)

sewjoyce--ok, but I don't see him ever wanting to get rid of it!!!!

Debbie1- thank you for you sweet comments.

I decided to give him my BOM from last year--red, white and blue stars. I have added and added so it will be a
large lap quilt. I am ready to quilt it now. It will be his birthday gift.(end of July)
