I love this! When I saw Southwestern, I had to see this! Have a jacket pattern that is SW and has this same pattern. Haven't made one yet.

the original pattern is called Lanterns in the Garden by Lerlene Neveril in her book Midnight Quilts (because she did them all with black backgrounds). It's a pretty easy one to make.
