Spider Web Triangle Template Photo

This is the Triangle Template which is on plain piece of 8 1/2 x 11 size white paper. Than I trace the Template onto my Foundation Sheet. I can get two triangle Templates on one sheet. I use a black Ink Pen to draw my Triangle Template onto my Foundation Sheets.

I thought maybe you might want to see this...

Spiderweb quilts are fun! I used Bonnie Hunter's method on paper piecing last year. My only problem area was the 8 point intersections when they are sewn together.

Don't know if anyone else does this, but when I have a paper piecing template that I need multiple copies of, I use newsprint size to fit the printer and just run copies. Bet you could also cut foundation sheets or some interfacing to size and run it through also. Sure saves me a lot of time. You can buy newsprint (a really thin paper) for your printer at amazon pretty inexpensively. freezer paper also runs through the printer.

Just wanted to share some of my shortcuts and money saving and time saving ideas.
Have a wonderful day, week, month, holiday and New Year.

Would to see the ending--good job !

Hi, Linda. Thank you for sharing your template. I plan to do a spiderweb quilt and needed to know how to make the kite-shaped piece. I made a string quilt recently and used scraps of lightweight cotton for foundations. What are the advantages of paper foundations?

Instead of transferring the lines onto your foundation paper, could you just make lots of photo copies and sew all 3 layers while using the paper piecing technique? Maybe someone else just asked the same thing or am I missing something?

I just started paper piecing, so I am new to this technique.

Or, why can't you just skip the foundation layer and sew directly on your photo copies? Or am I asking a stupid question? (sorry!)

If you go on the Missouri Star Quilting site, you can get a tutorial on how they do their spider web quilt...I made mine this way and it turned out beautifully. They have papers you can purchase and a great template that you can cut around to make the center part. Very simple method and goes together easily. No drawing needed. Good luck.

The Missouri Star Quilt company has a plexiglass template for the "kite" piece, makes it faster. Just finished piecing a Spiderweb quilt top. I use mail order catalog pages for my foundation, they tear off easily and I'm recycling the catalogs. I cut a 10" square of the catalog page and then cut it in 1/2 diagonally. I tape the kite piece fabric in the center of the triangle, then piece lots of different size strips. I've included some pictures of my quilt top, it just needs borders. I pieced all of the blocks on a Singer 301 and 2 of my treadles:
a 1914 Singer 115 and 1917 White Rotary.

Really nice.

I'd sure need those lines at 4:30 AM. LOL!! Good idea! :-)

When you want to copy to newsprint, check out dickblick.com. They offer a ream of 81/2 x 11 newsprint (that's 500 sheets) for just over $3. You can get several reams for the same shipping cost and build your supply or share with your pp friends.

you can also get newsprint tablets from the dollar store. 2 different sizes....$1 each. that's what I use. It's called 'Scribble and Doodle Pad.' There's no shipping cost, but it has 100 sheets per tablet, not 500

A spider web is on my to do list for 2014. I'm thinking of maybe floating the points. I have a martelli ruler to cut the wedges. Has anyone used the martelli spiderweb ruler?

#1piecemaker 12-18-2013 03:48 PM

Looks like fun to me! I've never see the Spider web pattern before. Thanks for sharing!

Ladibug 12-18-2013 05:42 PM

There is a nice pattern for one on http://maryquilts.com It plays tricks on my eyes to look at it. It seems like the webs float.

Thank you for the information, I just ordered 2 reams. The shipping cost more than the paper. Still, worth it. Here's the link - it was a bit hard to find:

The tablets at the dollar store are 9 by 11, and my printer won't take them. This is the perfect solution, I've been to all the big office supply stores, and they don't carry newsprint. I was glad to find this.

grandmalittle 12-19-2013 05:46 AM

I put several pieces of paper with the template pattern on top, and sew through them with a large unthreaded needle.
many marked at once
