mimee4 02-12-2011 07:48 AM

The quilting is stunning. Great job. This is a great quilt with these fabrics. My question is - why am I reading all these entries and not at my machine trying to recreate some of these gorgeous quilts!!!

Gatormom3 02-12-2011 08:31 AM

Both of your quilts are lovely. The fabric collection is so pretty and I love the quilting and the fact that you did it with your 6600. That gives me encouragement to try with mine :-)

rockie8903 02-12-2011 08:32 AM

Beautiful fabric choice!

Please do have a go - I got the 6600 especially so that I could do my own quilting, and haven't been disappointed. I have mine set down in a table (the Janome one for it, but it's possible to use other tables, or to build up around the machine), and that makes a big difference. It's less than 2 years since I started doing free motion, and each one I do I find easier - lots of practice is essential - you only need small scrap sandwiches. I use a Sewslip mat too on the machine bed.
And agree about this fabric, it is lovely - the red is a really dark red, so rich with the blues.

Katrine 02-12-2011 08:57 AM

Thank you everyone for your very kind comments - its very encouraging!

Leann 02-12-2011 08:57 AM

A jelly roll, then one and half metres for the blue borders and red binding.

Dae Kuczma 02-12-2011 10:10 AM

Oops..........never mind, you stated jelly roll in the beginning. I just love the quilt!! Very nice job.

WOW your quilt is gorgeous but your free hand fmq skills are outstanding. Your quilt backing shows your incrediable quilting and your quilts lays perfectly flat with no fabric puckers at all. Congrats on both of your creations.

This is beautiful... very Americana. Is it: join strips, cut triangles from them, join triangles? Just trying to figure out how it went together.

Lovely quilt!

sewbizgirl 02-13-2011 11:39 AM

Just noticed you are in France... I called your quilt "Americana", as we do share the colors with you! So it's Americana and French, both. Very pretty.

Lovely quilt!

Yes, that's right - you join 4 strips alternating light & dark, then cut across the strips at 8ins, givin 8in squares, then across the diagonals. You can then mix how you want to give the finished 16in blocks. The pieced border is from the remainders of the strips, joined together.

And yes, the tricolour of France is blue, white and red!
