Splendid Sampler
2 Attachment(s)
Ok, OK I was doing the Gypsy Wife and have done all the blocks. Now need to join them with strips. I realized how big is is and am not in a hurry!
So I started the 365 Challenge but found it was more a job of work and not what I wanted to do now. Then I found this wonderful "Splendid Sampler" which has 6" blocks of many different styles and colors. THAT is what I was looking for - FUN not WORK. Some of my blocks are not yet finished - the 2nd picture needs antennae to make the corners into butterflys (another job for my dear cousin as well as finishing the decorative stitches on the blue flowers). A new block comes out twice a week and so far are easy to keep up with. I'm doing past ones and the current ones, too. So here are some pictures of blocks I've done and a link to the information: http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/ Thanks for looking! |
WOW! Sounds and looks like fun. Thanks for the link. I'm into fun too, this time of year. Really like the earth block.

I belong to a group of about 10 quilters that have been together since the beginning of Splendid. We meet once a week at 8am and share our tips and problems we are having with the blocks. It has been so much fun using different techniques. We sit on the edge of our chairs awaiting each block release. It is a real commitment and a lot of work but we sure are enjoying the process. I have come to believe that is the enjoyment of quilting - ENJOY THE PROCESS!!!

Adore that earth block! Another quilting option... I have way to many!! Thanks for the info and motivation!
|
I love the Earth block! These all look good.
|
I have been saving all the blocks on my computer for another item on my bucket list! Who knows when I will get to it?

FUN!
I'm in, LOL! |
That is an interesting block of the earth especially with the stitching and fabric you selected.
|
You are busy having fun! I will take a look at the link, thanks.

Hi Kitsie,
I did not realize that the Splendid Sampler was such small blocks. I really like how yours are coming along. Looks like it is going to be a pretty sampler. But....I really can't wait to see how your Gypsy Wife quilt comes out too. I fell in love with this pattern when it came out. But, Not letting myself start anything new right now. I have lots of oldies I need to fall in love with again and finish. (UFO's!) And, I haven't found a must have fabric line for Gypsy Wife yet. Who knows, maybe another scrappy someday. Thanks for sharing your pictures and links. I've thought about the Splendid Sampler. But, right now, I think it's too big a commitment for me. Maybe your pictures will change my mind. Can't wait to see more. |
Oh how I love those blocks, especially the button flowers! I have a "thing" about buttons...lol
|
very nice, love the Earth one with the emb.
|
Kitsie, I have been following the Splendid Sampler since Pat Sloan kicked it off... I love how different all the blocks are. Unfortunately, summer is crazy for me so I am now behind in my Gypsy wife and the splendid sampler blocks but keep printing the patterns for my binder.

very nice job!!

Thanks, Judith. The Gypsy Wife is safely stowed right now. All the blocks are done and that's the fun part for me. As I found, its quite large and I have neither another large wall or extra bed! Going to put up a magnetic display wall - "Heavy Duty Design Wall" as shown in the Tutorials section by Shorebird so that I can swap out quilts. Right now my Jane Stickle has pride of place and I'm not moving her!
As for fabrics, I bought one FQ bundle and all the rest are from my "left overs", and am using them again for this one! I've never sorted my stash so its an adventure opening totes and finding some great fabrics! Try a block or two from time to time! If you can, book mark or download the blocks for Splendid. They are not hard to do and you can make one up quickly to store - like having a break from other projects. |
Don't think of yourself as "being behind", They can be done in ones or two any week, month or year! Think of the pleasure you have waiting for you! Give yourself a treat from time to time and do a block! :o

Here's one of the Splendid Samplers blocks I made except it's 4x the size; made four of the blocks to make a 12 1/2" unfinished block. It was for a recent Boom swap. |
That is a great block Kitsie. I haven't come to that one, started late and am limping along. and I am on that "goose on the loose" block right now.
|
I really love the earth block, good job on all of them.
|
Thank you all for the comments on the Earth block! I cannot take credit for the map, though. Another nice thing is that with each block "page" there are at least 6 sample photos of the block done by others and that was also the one that caught my eye.
I have taken the black ties off from the button flowers, too and will replace them, maybe beads? |
Good job!!! Great looking blocks.

Thanks for the link...Looks like fun...
