Had my granddaughter for spring break...she made a pillow for her Aunt in N.C. (her first star--Ohio star). Then we needed to have something quick and easy to make for her mama for Easter...so I taught her about whole cloth quilting and cross-hatch quilting; she got 2 pillows made and she was so happy she actually got 3 projects done in 2 days of quilting. She's 13 and loves to sew on my Janome 9000 (which she will inherit when she's 16). I'm a proud grammie!

Very nice! Isn't it wonderful when the younger generations want to learn a craft!

Your granddaughter is so very pretty and did a wonderful job!!! I wish I could get my 14 yr. old DD interested in sewing or quilting. My DGD who is 4, loves to help me, so maybe I will have a future quilter in her.

dkabasketlady 04-11-2010 07:50 PM

Great pillows! I'm sew glad that your DGD is wanting to learn to quilt, my DD is almost 26 and finally shows some interest also, better late than never, right?

She did a wonderful job on the pillows  Please pass on to her our compliments

She is very pretty, keep her interested in the quilting, it will keep her in the house and away from the boys  LOL And how fun for her to be able to practice, learn and work on a a machine that will soon be hers

She's well on her way :-P

Sherri, don't count on it. My granddaughter loved sewing on my machine from ther age of 4 to 10, and I thought ,"oh boy, I have a girl I can finally teach to sew" Nope, no interest at all after she hit her teens.

Old Owl Gray 04-12-2010 01:27 PM

.........and she's beautiful.

barnbum 04-12-2010 03:11 PM

What a beautiful GD! She loves visiting her grammie and look what she made!!! Fantastic! :D :D

VickiM 04-12-2010 04:32 PM

Don't loose hope...the aunt she made the Ohio star for was in her late 20's when she decided to learn to quilt...was in another state, so lots of long distance tutoring and she basically taught herself...she makes beautiful things and is very active in a large guild (in charge of safe child--I donate alot of quilts to her). But, alas, my older daughter lives here and has NO interest in sewing...she says "why should I? I have you and you're teaching Kaelyn". Gotta admit, she has a point.

And thanks, everybody, for the nice comments...I am passing them along to Kaelyn.

RedGarnet222 04-12-2010 05:12 PM

What a little cutie she is! I know this skill will be something she will enjoy her whole life. She did a GREAT job!

littlehud 04-12-2010 07:19 PM

Those are all beautiful. She is such a pretty girl. It's good you are teaching her to love fabrics and quilting. She is one of us now.

MaryAnna 04-12-2010 08:13 PM

How wonderful! You are able to pass along such talent to the next generation!
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna

She is a beauty for one, and does lovely work.. great teaching grandma!

clem55 04-13-2010 04:29 AM

Vicki, funny, my granddaughter's name is also Kaelyn, and my daughter, Linda, said the same thing about learning to sew. LOL And both our GD are beautiful!! My Kaelyn is almost 21, so I don't think she is going to get interested , but she is going to make other people have beautiful smiles with her new career.

ibequilting1 04-13-2010 05:05 AM

I told my GD she needs to learn to quilt because fabric would be her inheritance. I have enough to keep us both busy for a LONG time. Carol

Mundy Woodbeck 04-13-2010 05:59 AM

That's unusual for the names to be spelled the same way...and glad to hear someone else's daughter thinks the way mine does...Tonia is a single parent of the 2 grandkids (Tyler age 15 is heavily into sports and girls, but when he was young, even he loved the embroidery machine and crafting) and has enough on her plate, so can't get too upset at no interest in sewing. We love them all anyway, right?

Thanks to all for the nice comments, Kaelyn is loving this.

It is so great to see kids taking a interest in a dying art. Most kids don't seem interested
