The lack of rain this spring is seriously affecting the wildflowers. But on a visit last week to the Rockport area last week, I photographed a few beauties I thought I'd share. We were hoping to see whooping cranes, but apparently missed them by a few days. I keep thinking there is a quilt in some of these photos.
Bluebonnets and Mexican Firewheels shared space at the edge of the bay. They even grew beneath a palm tree. These butterflies were plentiful. A prickly poppy looks rather delicate, but grow profusely. I love the way the flowers crowd near a bunch of cacti. Oh thank you thank you - they're such a treat especially since we still have snow on the ground!

It will be awhile before any of my spring flowers poke their heads out. Still snow around here, also.

We're having to water daily to keep the flowers in my yard blooming, but I got tired of winter pretty quickly this year. The birds along the coast were gorgeous. My favorite: a white mockingbird, apparently not a true albino, but pretty enough to make us stop the car and watch it chasing bugs in a field.

lovely, lovely pics. thanks

I love the bumble bee on the thistle bloom

Rockport is close to me and still getting their flowers - most of them in Corpus are whithering away - between the high winds and the sun/heat! Wish we would get a day of rain to bring them back!

Beautiful, but the drought is becoming quite serious all over Texas. They say it's going to continue right into Summer. I'll take the drought, just pray for all the ones losing their homes to fires in West Texas...

Oh Marymm - Excellent photos - like your DOF. They bring back memories of the years I lived in San Antonio. Have you thought about putting these shots into a quilt like several of us on the Board have done?
|
Where in Texas do u live i am in San Antonio. Missed the blubonnets this year not very plentiful
|
Very nice pictures! I hope to see the real thing here soon.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos!!! :D:D

THanks for nice comments. I truly am thinking of putting some in a quilt, just haven't decided how. The lack of rain is getting really serious. All of the counties in the area are on a outdoor fire ban and alert because of worries about fires getting out of control. I live in The Woodlands, just north of Houston, but grew up in Tyler. The wildflowers in general haven't been as profuse or lasted as long as usual, but maybe that makes me enjoy the ones I do see more.

I knew spring was coming......somewhere......sometime...

Moosegirl, your pics are beautiful too.. I am just getting rid of the last snow here. Have some tulips breaking ground but everything else is still waiting for sun.
|
Love the pics!!

Love the iris and dogwood, Moosegirl. I think the dogwoods are about through blossoming in my area, but we still have lots of other garden plants. Right now, I have 3 colors of roses, lavender, columbine, amaryllis, geraniums, begonias, among others. Jodi, you may be a bit disappointed in the Brenham area. We were there week before last and couldn't find the usual display. However, there were a few spots of fields with clusters of people getting photo of family. I have transfeered some photos to fabric (for inclusion in quilts) but would like to see a diffferent setting. I did a crazy quilt for my mother-in-law with pictures from her childhood and early family days....thinking...

Thank you so much for my first real taste of spring flowers
|
Thanks for sharing.. I lived in Austin for 4 years! Sure miss all of the beauty! Long to go back and visit again!

Thank you for sharing some of your Texas Spring. AZ is pretty dry and devoid of our usually colorful spring wildflowers. It doesn't matter where we live we all need to see Spring's Array of color to feel the change of seasons. :D :D :D

Thank you for sharing, I would love to see a quilt from these :D:D:D
