Squirrel Block
1 Attachment(s)
I generally don't post one block at a time, but I'm so pleased with how this squirrel turned out, I wanted to share it:) I hope you don't mind.
I'm thinking of fabric painting the eye, as I'm not good enough at machine embroidery to make it work perfect. This is my first time appliquing with a fusible webbing and I love the satin stitch finish. The quilt will be for my new unborn baby, due in September. As I am stitching this I am thinking of the wee bundle:) (Okay, I'm in nesting mode already!) |
Great start! Please post hen you are done with your quilt and also let us know when the baby arrives!
I can see why you are happy with the result. Keep us posted on the progress of your quilt.

Very cute!
Beautiful job! Cannot wait to see the next one.
keep posting.....we love to see progress!
You could just put a satin stitch in a crescent shape for the eye and it would be done too. Pretty easy since you have all that practice already. By the way, congratulations on your soon to be baby and your little squirrel is cute!
That's really cute!
That's so cute! If you are more comfortable painting it, then go ahead. It's going to be really cute however you decide to finish it up.

Very pretty little squirrel... one of my favorite animals.
The 'nesting mode' is so much fun. As you wait for the baby you will truly enjoy making this quilt. The squirrel is very cute and I know the next blocks will be equally great. Keep us posted on progress. We will be anxious to see the finished quilt and the baby who will snuggle under it.
What a sweet block. I am certain that you and your baby will enjoy the finished quilt.
Very cute squirrel.

I agree. The squirrel is so cute.
Nice job. Looking forward to seeing a post of the completed quit and a picture the new addition to your family.
You're right, your squirrel came out great. How exciting for you...and something fun to look forward to in September. Congratulations
I like seeing your block so large...it turned out great! Congrats on your baby on the way. Please show us more blocks.
So adorable! You did an awesome job on the satin stitch. I would use a fabric marker for his eye. I love to applique but unless you are really good at it, I think it is hard to applique the really small pieces like an eye & get it to look like you want it to. I have done it but mine look better with the fabric markers. That's just me! lol Congratulations on your new arrival in Sept. Such an exciting time in ones life. Keep us posted. We love to see every ones projects. One block or a whole quilt. It is just in our blood! lol

It is adorable and congratulations!

Re: eye -If you use the acrylic paint - use the end of a small paintbrush (not the brush end), shake the bottle and dip your tool in the cap of the paint bottle - not the paint bottle itself. There should be enough paint on the cap (from shaking it) to do the job. This gives you control of how much paint you pick up. One dip and dab should do the trick. Try it on scrap fabric first to get the feel of it.
Are there any decorative stitches on your machine to use for the eye? Looks great. What are the rest of the blocks. Keep us up to date on the rest of the blocks.
That really is cute. Can't wait to see the whole quilt when it is done.
So cute and please keep us posted on your progress of the quilt.
He looks great. Have you considered just a quick hand embroidered eye for him?
Congrats on your upcoming big event. Your quilt block is beautiful. Imagine what a treasure the quilt will be 30 years from now when he or she pulls it out and gifts it to your grand child.
I would probably hand embroider that eye on. |
