I don't understand the "whack-n-stack" but then I'm new to quilting too.

Cindy,

A stack n whack is where you stack (in this case 4 layers of fabric, but you can do 6 or 8 layers) and line the material up on the repeat of the fabric design, then you cut as directed in your pattern (in this case the pattern if Four Patch Poesy (4 layers) but there is also a book called Stack n Whack that give the 6 and 8 layer method). In some cases you can use some butt ugly fabric and come up with some beautiful blocks. The key is to have variation in the design first and/or color. Ok, is that all clear as mud? Hope it helps.
