What a beautiful keepsake..Something to be treasured a very long time..

OM!! That is one very handsome (beautiful) quilt, and given it's history I am sure treasured!!

For those of you who wonder about the Ribbon Weave design, it really is a Stack 'n' Whack and I found the directions in Stack 'n' Whackipedia, also by Bethany Reynolds who wrote the original S 'n' W book. It probably is the simplest one to make and it only requires four repeats of the fabric design.

Oh how beautiful! One day I am going to try one of these... May need you to help with my colors!

Such a gorgeous quilt with special memories. He will love it! I love the red!

That quilt is beautiful. Love the colors and stack and whack is my favorite, although I have not made one yet. I know the gs is very proud of this quilt

It is so much fun to see what kaleidoscope design will be made with the Stack 'n whack method. Guys especially love them. I made one for my grandson of tropical fish fabric with blues/orange/turquoise. He loves it. Your mom's is just beautiful and provides so many meaninful memories for your family as you continued its journey. What warm feelings for all of you.

What is meant by Stack and Whack? How do you do it?

They are called Stack and Whack because you cut a fabric into sections WOF of identical repeats of the fabric. Then you layer or stack these sections so that when you stick a pin in a certain spot down through all of the layers your pin will poke each fabric in the exact same place (or as close as possible). Usually you use flower pins or pins that lay completely flat without a ball on the end. Once you have these layers or stack of fabrics pinned, you whack which means to take your rotary cutter and ruler and cut your pieces for the quilt. In doing this your triangles or whatever shape you are using will make a star or block in which all of the pieces are identical. The Book is Stack and Whack. If you search Stack And Whack you will get many threads on them. |
Beautiful quilt

So very pretty! I have a couple of quilts that my grandmother made that I plan to give my granddaughters one day. What a great thing for you to do for your son! I can't imagine anything better, it's like a hug from Grandma!

The part I still don't understand is at what point do you put in the white fabric. I don't see the pattern?

I am posting several pictures of squares I have been working on for a child's twin size quilt. I think it should show what I am talking about. example 1 stack and whack block example 2 stack and whack block example 3 stack and whack block |
Thank you all for the lovely compliments. This was a very special thing for my sister and I to be able to do for her son. I wasn't there when he opened his gifts, but I know it meant the world to him. When he was born he was the only grandbaby for quite a few years and you can imagine how we all spoiled him.

I CAN SEE WHY IT WOULD. GORGEOUS!
