This seems to be drafted on a grid that is six units wide by four units high. I've drawn three possible ways to piece it. bearisgray Staggered Flying Geese Line Drawings |
Now that looks like it would be a very cool border!! Thanks for graphing that out!
|
that would look great. Is there a picture of it on a quilt somewhere :?: :D
|
I see a paper pieced block in there too. Trying to think of a way to number the blocks so they appear on here. My scanner is out of commission

ok so the printer is fried....or its mad at the computer. Now don't laugh, I know this looks silly but I used Windows Paint to do up the paper pieced block. Remember to reverse it if thats what you want it to look like face up.

trying this another way to see if it works. Quiltsoft 6 won't let me save the quilt as a jpeg.
|
that would work -
i think the "braid" could be paper-pieced also |
Bearisgray, I tried in Q6 but it won't let me reverse the block. The above post with the downloadable attachment would have to be reversed but it should print out to 4 by 6 inches finished. You'd have to add the seam allowance around the block.

I still draft my patterns on graph paper - haven't gotten a quilter computer program yet - but it is on my wish list.

See this "strippy" (I think that's the right term) quilt on this site:
It's called Migrating Geese and Cobblestones http://www.datquiltlady.com/class2.htm#MIGRATING%20GEESE%20AND%20COBBLESTONES: |
Oh, I really like that,
|
That is one pretty quilt.
|
I like that a Lot!
|
Very cool. I like that idea alot!

I just finished a border with this pattern.
The border was introduced to me as "Migrating Geese". I am going to post a picture, and then go create a tutorial and come back and post the addy. I am so thankful that BearIsGray started this thread. <wave> The first four geese - - can be made as long as you desire the border I created for the IRR2 |
thanks

Good thing you said something because I Forgot to get back here and post the tutorial link. The search words are: Migrating/Staggered Geese <wave></wave> |
Thanks, Omak.
I have line drawings in this thread for it. It was such a puzzle to figure out how to do it. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-9285-1.htm If that doesn't work, search for "Staggered Flying Geese" by bearisgray The drawings are in that one, not the "Staggered Geese Drawing" |
Ooo--that's a neat idea!!
|
Staggered geese made me think of geese that had gotten into a bad batch of grain.
There is a wall sized pattern with staggered (but still sober) geese section of the wall hanging. It is at Fat Quarter Shop: Bean Counter quilts by Lorrie Franz :Animal Tracks. I thought you would simply made lop sided geese but drawings provided here might be easier. Jois |
Thanks very much for all your help...
|
#1 is my favorite but I really like them all. Thanks for drawing the patterns out.

Thanks for posting this! I was recently trying to figure out the way I would piece this without PP and appreciate your graphs. Here's a little mini with the SFG. :D
sample SFG mini |
I got my first four finished. I made the geese square 1/2 inch larger and it works perfectly, leaving the quarter inch seam allowance at the sides. I started with a five inch square for the geese and two 4 1/2 in squares for the backgrounds. It was fun to see that come out. Rather than copy the whole pattern on the printer, I only copied 5 pages. I ran from the computer to the sewing room (and the laundry room to iron) a few times. Now I have the directions and a sample.

Thanks for that great diagram, Bear!
