Hi everyone,,,,,,, this is my latest finished project,,,,,,,, the pattern is called Starlight Express and its from a book called Jelly Roll quilts by Pam and Nicki Lintott,,,,,,,I added an extra border to make it a little bigger as the finished project was only 72 x 72,,,,,, mine is 90 x 90 finished size,,,,,,,, the material I used was purchased from Connecting Threads,,,,,,,,Canterbury collection,,,,,,,,,, I just love their material,,,,,,, and the cheap shipping to Canada is very appealing too,,,,,,,,, thx for looking,,

Very pretty! I like how you used the various fabrics of the stars in the sashing.

Nice work, good color placement-this is on my list to do but I have a stack of surface design fabrics I made to use and still making more before I start. Keep on quilting! Moosegirl

Great job. I have been looking at that pattern too - I have the same book. How difficult was it to do the stars? I have attempted stars before - they take so long to line up and then I have the dreaded Y seam - tell me that this pattern is easier.

Gail Maloney 02-23-2011 07:35 AM

I'm happy to tell you that this pattern is extremely easy,,,,,,,, there are NO y seams,,,,,,,,,,, this book is fabulous,,,,,definitely worth every penny I paid for it

Very pretty. Gotta admit though when I read Starlight Express I was thinking trains and Andrew Lloyd Weber. LOL!

You did a wonderful job. We did this on a retreat onetime and I found it great fun. Love your colors. Thank you for sharing.

Ok - I have this book and I attempted this pattern this last week - Ugh... I am having such a hard time with the diamonds- I made the large diamond blocks and added the x and y borders then when I sew the 4 pieces together - it gets poufy in the middle where the diamonds line up - is there a secret? I have one of the star blocks done and started another one and its not as poufy - but I find this to be very frustrating - help!!!

Lynneander 03-03-2011 07:49 AM

very pretty quilt!

Gail Maloney 03-04-2011 08:02 AM

are you using the scant 1/4 inch seam allowance? i really didnt have any trouble with my diamonds at all

Busy Bee 03-04-2011 08:07 AM

Love it. This Star pattern is on my to do list.

Wendys Quilts 03-04-2011 08:07 AM

I have that one in the works now! But I am going to be adding more stars for mine. I want mine to fit on our king!

Yours is great looking!

knlsmith 03-04-2011 10:28 AM

I got the book last weekend. Im going to make mine with 6 or 9 stars. Just have to decide what I want to use out of my stash

0tis 03-04-2011 04:29 PM

Yes, I did 1/4 inch seams but lining up the diamonds takes me forever - I have to fit every one of them - I carefully cut them and checked the angle almost every cut. I think this pattern is not my forte.

smockingRN 03-04-2011 05:29 PM

It's beautiful...I want one like it, too! Thanks for sharing,
Karen in La.

Beautiful stars! Great fabrics and colors, I really like the quality of their fabrics too and the price is unbeatable, especially when they clear them out at under 3.00 a yard.

quilting librarian 03-05-2011 02:57 AM
