I did not have a pattern - drew it up on EQ after a class - My dear friend Barb teaches this technique - it's easy! Cut backing and wadding a couple of inches larger than finished block - draw diagonals on wadding (laid on top of backing) - this gives you the centre of the block - sew precut strips around a centre square, flipping each strip as you go - does that make sense?? All the blocks were then joined together by machine on the front - and then by hand on the back - lots of hand sewing!! Will post a pic of a part sewn block if you like ...

hehe :) Davee is well over six foot (I'm just 6 foot!) so needed a nice long one to cover him! Actually goes over the pillows as well - I chose to complete the design so that it was symetrical - that meant it was way longer than needed - glad I did tho' ...

That is without a doubt one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen, and at 82 I've seen a few!

Bluebonnet Sue 01-10-2011 10:50 PM

Beautiful & I'm sure he thinks it was worth the wait. Besides, I'll bet he appreciates it more at this age & has some sense of the work & love that you devoted to his special quilt.

Thanks Bonnie! He left just after CHristmas - I had to post it as I said - he still has not received it - is at his sister's house - they are both in Brisbane - awaiting the flood waters to rise - both famiies are safe and should not be too badly affected we hope - many many sad stories of lives and things lost - we are praying for relief and safety ... I am in Australia :) - just in case you did not recognise where Brisbane is ...

Gramof6 01-11-2011 12:32 AM

I was so taken with the quilt I didn't even notice where you were. We hear about your terrible floods daily, and are so concerned. Hope the quilt arrives safely!

jdavis 01-17-2011 03:44 PM

It's absolutely beautiful! Congrats on getting it done!
