I am making this quilt for my in-laws 50th. It will be king size when completed. Their wedding colors where purple and silver. I am debating on which way to go with it. If I should do all the same in the center or make squares and sash around them. What do you think? Your opinion is much appreciated.

I think saching will give each block a statement But if you chose not to use saching it will all blend into one solid top. Both will be Beautiful.
I like the idea of all the fabrics blending in with each other - like the 50 years of their marriage.
Looks like a tremendoud amount of work to me - a king size is very large.

Looking forward to seeing the end results. love the colors

I am of the other way of thinking on this one. I like the sashing as it sets the blocks apart more. Either way though it will be a beautiful quilt.

cool

sashing to seperate, does not have to be very wide
sisters must think alike, I just talked to dbries and I told her a very narrow sashing would be enough to just set the blocks apart.

I like saching. I would put one of a couple of inches between the blocks.
I think that a frame around each block would really be strikeing, but the colors are so pretty you can't go wrong with what you decide to do.
I like the look of sashing around the block to make them stand out. Such beautiful colors! What a masterpiece you are going to have!
I would sash around them with gray to put more "silver" in the quilt. great blocks!
I vote for sashing also, something narrow, and I would go with a solid color or tone-on-tone. I vote for a dark purple.
Love the colours! I like sashing but that is really a personal choice.
If my opinion counts, I am with my sisters - sashing. I personally like deep purple. Is this a surprise??

Isn't this just too coincidental? I have a burgundy and silver wedding quilt to make also, and I found some really pretty actually silver fabric at an Indian Store (that sells fabric for the sari or whatever it is called that covers them up completely). I've been trying to figure out how to make it work without looking garish. I think you just showed me how. Thanx for the great post. Oh -and I would leave the sashing off

Thin black sashing

what did you decide? How about update?

I think that sashing would be neat perhaps using either a solid silver lame' would be beautiful for sashing maybe a bit pricy, but after all it is for the 50th and you said silver and purple are their colors or use small strips of both purple and silver. It would be neat if you blocks are small enough to make 50 blocks one block for each year of marriage. It would be nice if you had some neat saying or know of a special happening for each year and make a small label for each square. Just a thought. I know that gold is usually the 50th but after all if their colors are silver and purple, it will be theirs and who cares about special colors, after all it is for a special couple. Looking Good. show pics when finished. Congrats to them both. They have spent 100 yrs together, fifty for her and fifty for him. lol Imagine my saying silver when purple is my favorite color, but I think silver with purple together would really make it pop. Maybe narrow strips of deep purple with a silver strip between two purples. I can visualize it now.
