I recommend you buy the upgraded carriage. I had the wooden carriage like you have and it was put together really well, but still wobbled. I upgraded to the new metal carriage and the difference was like night and day. I do love this combination, though!

How does the speed control work on your frame? I see the foot control up above the machine and seem to remember seeing some kind of mechanical lever to control it, maybe? Or do you have a stitch regulator?

I have a Juki and a hand-me-down Handi Quilter II frame I've been trying to learn to use but can't get past controlling the stitching speed. It has a dial for speed control on one of the handles, but I can't seem to get coordinated to start the stitching and get the machine moving together. I've been doing fine using the push through method of FMQ, but would really like to get going with a frame...

Congrats!! You are going to have a blast quilting!

Wendy, it does have a hand lever that controls the foot pedal, but it did come with a speed control that will bypass the need for the foot pedal. I have not gotten that put on it, yet. I think that I'll probably like the speed control more than the lever since it is just pushing a button. I would like to get a stitch regulator, but they are so expensive that it will have to wait for now.
