well ... i guess i should have put my eyeballs in sideways this morning. This looked just fine to me until i hung it up to photograph. it's the right size and shape when the stones go up and down (as planned) but looks wierd. it doesn't look wierd when they go sideways, but that makes it the wrong shape.

won't tell you how many times i've ripped off the attempts to bind the stupid thing.

i guess i'll name it Charlie Brown's Stepping Stones.

Country Quilter 02-10-2008 04:55 PM

Geez....I didn't scroll down far enuf so I was sitting here tilting my head to one side trying to see what you were talking about! LOL Now that I scrolled down and saw the other picture, I STILL don't see anything wrong? Looks good to me!

joannl 02-10-2008 04:59 PM

Looks good to me too. If you don't like the way it looks maybe you could move some of the blocks so it is the right shape but the blocks are going the other way. I hope you know what I mean because that explanation sounds crazy to me!
Jo
PS are you sending your photo in so you get the free fabric?

henryparrish76 02-10-2008 05:16 PM

Looks good to me..... :):)

Chele 02-10-2008 05:26 PM

I like it up and down. Maybe my eyeballs are sideways?!! Plus, how can you go wrong with blue, white, and yellow? It's so crisp and clean looking. Do your thing with some borders or binding Patrice, you'll make it sing.

barnbum 02-10-2008 06:00 PM

That's so cool! I've never seen that pattern before. I want to tiptoe across it and pretend I don't want to fall in the water. :D

Awesome--no errors that I can see. I love it!

Yvonne 02-10-2008 06:22 PM

Any way you turn it looks good to me! Follow your own advice and step away from it for a day. It'll look great when you come back. Trust me!

Patsy,
I want you to know I did the very same thing. Got a crick in my neck and the computer didn't enjoy being turned on it's side, at all!

live2teach 02-10-2008 07:10 PM

Looks good to me, too! I like those color combinations. That is a beautiful quilt. I've never seen this pattern before, either.

zyxquilts 02-10-2008 07:17 PM

It looks good both ways to me too! Maybe a border to "contain" it would make you happier with it? But I agree with Yvonne, step away for a day & then take another look.
Great colors & pattern, I think it's great

patricej 02-11-2008 02:36 AM

i don't dislike it. i just have this "thing" about symmetry and balance. it drives me nuts that it starts with a flowered row and ends with a solid. i didn't realize how disturbing that would be until i trimmed away the excess back and batting to prepare it for binding and took the photo.

i was also very frustrated because i didn't think i could add the extra flowered row without making the back look goofy. BUT the solution just hit me while i was writing this. i can fix it in a jiffy.

hmmmmm .... maybe that's why i was having such a tough time with the binding. the Quilt Fairy made sure i didn't get the binding right until i finally saw the solution. :P

P.S. i was led to this pattern by RisingPhoenix, who posted a question about it the other day. here's the link again:

http://www.quiltindex.com/SteppingStones.aspx

i made the quilt in ONE day. that is not a testament to my speed or skill. that's how easy this pattern is. i highly recommend it when you need to make something on short notice.

P.S.S. i cut 3.5" strips (instead of the 4.5" called for in the pattern) so it would fit onto the crib-sized batting i already had. with 3.5" strips, i used the same amount of all four fabrics. i got 6 blocks from each set of four width-of-fabric strips (one strip of each fabric).

Country Quilter 02-11-2008 03:00 AM

It is a fun pattern Patrice....I've made one (King size) and it went really fast too... I did mine totally scrap, had a ton of 6" charms, added a white strip to one end and then cut them up the middle and sewed those together end to end into rows and then sewed the rows together.

Can't wait to see your solution, however, I still think it looks good just the way it is! LOL

Knot Sew 02-11-2008 05:36 AM

I still don't see the problem, it seems uniform to me, but then I like making two color quilts. You got to please yourself. I have some UFO's in boxes........mostly a color thing. I have a strong urge to donate them somewhere that I am unknown......like the thrift store.   lol

LOL - I was doing the same thing, turning my head to visualize it sideways. I felt a bit silly once I scrolled down and saw it was already kindly posted that way for me.

Darn it Patrice! I hadn't really noticed it ended on a different color blue and now that you pointed it out, it's all I see from either angle. :P I love the blue and yellow and white. I agree, very crisp and clean looking.

I'm sorry, Tiffany. My bad. But you must admit, i'm very generous. I even share my insanity!

Well then, it's a good thing you have enough to go around!

I like the colors and fabrics you've used. Would love to see your 'solution' picture, too.

I like the direction in the second print best...here's my why for what its worth. It's the direction the roses. They seem more naturally arranged in the second. The first one, reminds me of painted on roses, the second reminds me of how I would see them in a garden against a blue sky. Either way though, I'm sure it will be outstanding!! You always do such beautiful pieces!!

joy 02-11-2008 03:02 PM

Love the pattern, could go either way, like your colours, it is very smart and well done.... charlie brown is a name I use on the internet....!!!

I liked this pattern enough to try it myself. I used flannel scraps. Yup, one more item made totally from my scraps. I have to get some of them used up before I explode. Anyway, this is the result. I'm like you Patrice, I can't decide what way the stepping stones should go, so I expermented and came up with this little item. It will make a lovely baby gift. Sara

Chele 02-12-2008 01:12 PM

That's really cute Sara! And with scraps! Anything to keep you from exploding! LOL!

I must point out that I have plenty of my own insanity and while I appreciate the gesture, my hubby would tell you I definitely don't need any help in this area.

patricej 02-12-2008 02:53 PM

well i am certainly not an indian-giver, so you will just have to keep it. besides, i already have a new supply taking up the space vacated by the crazy i shared with you.

feel free to pass my insanity on to someone else who doesn't have any yet of their own.

waht? you've heard of "paying it forward"?

Tiffany 02-13-2008 06:31 AM

In my case, paying it forward, sideways, backwards, upside down...
