I actually had the quilt pattern and some of the fabric ideas selected before I knew it'd be for Aaron. But, I don't want more quilts to sell, and with Christmas coming, and thinking about gifts... I knew it'd be a perfect gift for this young man. I assured Rachel the pattern I had in mind wasn't a complicated one at all--and I wanted to make the quilt anyway... I just needed to know who to give it to. When she told me he liked blues, I added more batiks in deep blue colors. He was even here one day when we were choosing which batiks fit together well. lol

When my son was dating his now wife of one year, I made her a small wall hanging with cats and dogs, then the next year I made her Cats Stairway to Heaven, then I told her if they were still together I'd make her a ragged flannel the next year. With a twinkle in her eye, she said "Justin, you'd better not break up with me!" He didn't. She got another quilt at her bridal shower...but none of the quilts they have completely fit the bed. So... she was looking through patterns and I suddenly remembered I had a Back to Nature pattern and some Modas already selected for it. I showed them to her and she loved them! That project is ready to make, but I had a craft show and other projects ahead of it.

I love that you know her love language....I was fortunate a couple of years ago to attend a seminar about love languages. I was working in a high risk high school and we studied the love language of teenagers. Sounds like the special one for her... :)

I think the Love Languages idea makes so much sense. I talked to my kids about it when they were younger so they'd have an idea about it once they grew and could apply the ideas. I wrote a summary of each and send it to the parents of my students every year.

Oh, that is splendid. I love Batiks and have been collecting them. I've heard several stories...you have to prewash them and put color catcher in the washer and then one of the quilt shop owners in town said she doesn't wash anything...even Batiks. Can anyone help me with this issue? Thanks

Lynn

A beautiful quilt, as usual. Absolutely love it and I'm wondering if I can't convince my grandson that he'd like one just like that for his birthday? Perhaps but if not I think I will still have to make a copy of it. Thanks for sharing.

I can tell you what I do! I wash ALL fabric before I use it. I agitate it in the machine by hand--then rinse and agitate it by hand then too. I dry it in the dryer. I use color catch sheets for all dark fabrics. Batiks are so beautiful, but there are a few challenges. 1. Sometimes the sides differ--and I like to be consistent and it's hard to always be looking at it closely to determine which side I wanted up. 2. It's sometimes stiffer and the needle will dull quicker--and it makes a popping sound with the needle sometimes when sewing with batiks.

Maresan 11-27-2011 08:10 AM

I love this batiks...this is lovely.
