I haven't made this yet but loved it. May 2009 magazine I just bought.

That is really neat! I would love to do that one. **wondering where on the To-Do list it should go....**

I really like that 3-D effect. Where are the instructions? I imagine this could be made one-block-at-a-time then connected,

nice one

the magazine is May 2009. i just bought it. it doesn't take binding. they lay the top face down on backing (with batting I assume) and sew all around leaving 5 inch opening on one block side, turn right side out and quilt. just blocks and pieced sashings but i love it. I don't think the directions are online though.

someone else said the magazine was October. I wondered since I'd just bought it but the website said May. perhaps it was in both months.
anyway, here's a free pattern of a similar block quilt, not the uneven edges though,

click on the photo to get the pattern. my friend in Australia sent me this link.

I also noticed that pattern when the magazine came - in fact it was the only pattern in the magazine that I really liked and intended to make. Then at the next guild meeting another woman brought in a wall hanging she made from that pattern, also using batiks. It was very pretty and well made, but we were all surprised how much smaller the actual item was than what it looks like in the magazine. It's only about 36" wide. I think that if I get around to making it I may increase the size (or not). It would depend on where you want to hang it, but if you want it to be above a couch you will probably want a wider wall hanging.

Oh yes, it can be made larger. just depends on teh number of blocks you make, it starts out with 2 1/2 inch squares in the center. my magazine photo looks more like those are rectangles to me. but what ever size you make the blocks will determine the size of your over all quilt.

I bought that magazine on Saturday, because I flipped throught it at the store and saw that quilt. I really do love it, it looks sooooo cool!

I just added that magazine to my to buy list for this weekend - that and the Patchwork magazine...that one has a quilt called dodge ball in it. I'm already picturing it with a space theme!
I'm looking forward to hitting the store to pick it up now!!
