Here are some of the stockings I've done over the years. Jasmine's, Alicia's, and Hailey's were done from kits (that I lucked on at garage sales :) )

The one that says Dorothy with the snow-mom and snow-daughter is my mother's. Last year, when I showed her Hailey's she was so tickled with it. She later mentioned to my hubby that she, in all her years had never had a stocking, even as a child. Soooo, that wonderful hubby of mine said, "Make her one." He was convinced that I could do it without a kit...so I got out my felt stash, and came up with this one. Mom was almost in tears when she found it under our tree Christmas morning. I got it from her today by telling her that I wanted to post pics of them here, so I am...just to make it honest LOL. The real intention is to refill it of course, hubby found her the most beautiful bracelet and cross necklace. Something else he found out she's never owned. He's so good at this! LOLOL You all may have to help me come up with another reason to snitch it back next year. She keeps it in a little box wrapped in tissue paper tucked safely in her dresser.

They are all hand appliqued with certian pieces stuffed lightly with batting to give them a 3-D effect.

The last two aren't appliqued, I hand painted those with fabric paint. I used heavy weight tablecloth linen for the stocking, it makes a wonderful canvas. I'm making those for the girls Godparents. I still have to sew the binding, its just pinned right now. They're kinda oversized, so it was hard to fit them in the frame.
Sorry they are kinda blurry, I have a web cam with still shot ability and it had focus issues today.

Merry Christmas eveyone!!

The stockings are terrific JBS!!! Hmmm, what can we tell Mom next year to get it back?? How about that you want to take a "group shot" of all the stockings?! Since this time you have invidual pics, maybe that would work?

Merry Christmas!!

JBS:
How darling your stockings are. True heirlooms and what memories you have made for each of your children and your mother. You are so thoughtful and it sounds like your DH is a mother-in-laws DREAM for a daughter.

Merry Christmas, thanks for sharing.

Thank you everyone!! Stockings have always been one of my favorite things to do. There are stockings of all shape, size, and styles from one coast to another from my house!!! So Dawn...be prepared cause once you've started making them, they become a quick addiction!! :)

JBS those are super! I think the "borrow for a group pic" is grand! Should work for 1 year>>>>>LOL

jbsstrawberry 12-26-2007 04:47 PM

Thanks everyone :)

The gig, however, for the group shot next year is up. Mom, being the sharp cookie she is, made me show her that I did indeed post the pic. She forgot that she taught me to be just as sharp...so all she did was grin and giggle when I said, seee seee I told ya I posted them! LOL So, keep thinkin gang...we have a year to figure out next years "borrow it back for..." scheme! :) :)

The stockings are gorgeous, i've never really been into them here in Australia as a traditional gift holder thingy. But they would make great wall hangings and decorations. I have never seen such great patterns while surfing the net. Do they have the designers name on them, so I can google them.

Once again. I love them, if I started making them now i could have them ready for christmas, which year i don't know!!!!!

Happy new year from Western Australia
Sharon

those are all beautiful! i have a stocking kit for my dd that i've not completed (lots of sequins, yuck). i need to get going on it as next year i'm hoping she'll 'get it'.

thanks for the inspiration!

Minda 01-02-2008 06:20 AM

They are all adorable. Your DH is definitely a keeper! :D :D
If you belong to a quilt guild, next December you could tell your mom that you want the stocking back for show and tell at the Christmas meeting.

Stockings are addiciting!! I made each of our family one many years ago - My husband, his two daughters and myself first. Then, as we had more children, each of them were made one... tradition says we MUST use these stockings each year. Now, my daughter has 'ordered' six of them - one for each of the four children she is planning - not even married yet!! - only 17!! and herself and her husband!! Can't wait to do them!!
