Now why o why didn't I think of that?? I have a computer chair whose back is broken but currently doing a great job as a shelf and using a chair for sewing which is not really suitable or comfortable. Why did I just assume that as the back was broken the chair was useless?? I could give my computer chair a new lease of life as a sewing stool and the chair can be the shelf! I'm already thinking of what fabric to cover my "new" stool with!! Thank you so much finch.

Ditto! I've been waiting for weeks for someone to weld my sewing chair as the back has broken off. Now I can cover the seat and have a NEW chair. Thanks

I always take the back off the simple office chair for sewing. It's so much better. Don't keep the back just because it's new or in good shape. Toss it, it's awkward to store and you don't need it to use for anything else.

What a great idea and I agree the backs just get in the way. I use a wooden stool and need to make a seat cushion for it, my tush gets a little numb if I sit too long.
You did a good job.
