Storing quilts

1 Attachment(s)
I saw somewhere that it was better to roll quilts for storage so it being a really wet miserable day I talked my hubby into helping me. He had got me a lot of pipes from his work so I set about covering them and then he rolled them on and I made tube like covers for them. It will keep them dust free and I think better than folding.

This is a great idea!

Should help prevent creases! Thoughtfully done.

That is a great idea.

I understand the folding but how do you keep it from unrolling? Put ties around? How do you store to rolls? If you stand on end they will bunch to the bottom.

Hi I have a large shelving space which will hold them have safely. I have named them on outside of covering so don't have to untie or open them

I would like to see the pics after you put them in their covers. Could you post some more?

I'd also like to know what you put on the outside of the tube to make it easier to roll them up. Do you use acid free paper anywhere? Do you need to worry about the material content of the tube damaging the fabrics?

I've thought of rolling mine often. If I can ever find the space to keep them, this is what I will do too.

Great idea. Love yours, especially the weaver fever.

Hi my tubes are PVC so have covered them with cotton fabric then rolled. The outside fabric is also cotton and have just tied some with strips of fabric until I am placing them on shelves I have in meantime elastic bands round some of them but will either tie or tack stitch before finally putting them away. Please excuse untidy room as waiting for slider robes to be fitted.

Hubby was on hand to roll as it's sore on my knees lol think I will keep him

Sounds like your DH is a keeper.
This floral quilt is really beautiful. I love the colors and the triangles around the borders.
This looks like a wonderful way to store quilts. It would save having to take them out and refold.
