nanabird--how do you get the squares in the sashing so perfectly placed? I've never had any luck with that. Please do share your secret.

I have the same panel and did the same thing. I bought four panels for $1 each when our WalMart closed their fabric department. I used sashing in primary colors to match the colors in the fabric. On the Star light, star bright picture that said this "book was made with love for ", I appliqued over the words saying "this quilt was made with love for ..." I used the cover picture of Mary Engelbreit"s Mother Goose and another picture to make a pillow to go along with the quilt. I was also able to get the coordinating fabric which has all the characters on blue dotted background to use for the backing for $l yard.

The salvage says Mary Engelbreit for VIP by Craston 2006.

I do this a lot with story book panels.

hi barn, i think the "perfect" placement is a combination of luck and an illusion. for one thing each picture was straight to begin with. all i had to do was trim each one with a seam allowance included. the little yellow border of each picture was part of the panel. i just trimmed it to show 1/4 inch.
i am trying to work with another that is as crooked as a "dogs hind leg", (that's what my grandma used to say). it is an adorable panel but i am going to have to figure out a way to use it by making "crooked" part of the design. wish me luck.

calabella, what a great idea, i still have those extra pages and now i know what to do with them. would love to see your project. i would love to find the backing fabric you talked about.

What a sweet quilt!

I forgot to mention that the Star brite picture that I appliqued over with "this quilt made with love for Mackensie L........ for her 1st birthday and the date and my name" was used as my label on the back of the quilt. I've been looking on the Net for the backing fabric but have not had any luck as yet. Will post if I find it. I did find the panel on ebay.

I have three more panels which I am saving for my own grandkids. I just found out Christmas that, hopefully, we will be grandparents in July. I can't wait to finally make baby quilts for my family.

Very nice! I saw some Winnie the Pooh storybook panels at Joann's a few weeks ago and was going to do something like this but when they unrolled the panel two of the panels were torn. I went back a week ago and they do not have it in stock anymore.

nanabirdmo,
I thought that looked like Mary Engelbreit's work! I absolutely love her stuff and the quilt is adorable. I hope I can find some. I am so envious of calabella for finding it at $1 a panel!!!!!

beautiful job - I'd also like to know where the panel came from or who the manufacturer is!
