String Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I started these blocks from a pattern in a book called String Quilt Revival by Nancy Zieman and two others. Have to make 120 of these so it will take a while. Really fun to do. Hope it puts a dent in my stash!

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful square. I love scrappy quilts. I am sure it will look fantastic when it is finished. I may do the same because I have a lot of scraps. Thank you for sharing it.

Cute blocks! I made my Spiderweb with black in the middle but had a hard time deciding what thread to use to sew them together. I settled on grey so it would not look too bad with the scraps and the black. I decided to iron the black intersections open to reduce bulk. Big mistake as I could see the grey thread against the black when machine quilted. Just a heads up.

Love string quilts. I find the more you use scraps, crumbs and strings the more you have. It seems to be a crazy universal law! lol Good luck with the scrap busting:)

I made one of these recently--they are a lot of fun to put together!

QUILTNMO 07-01-2014 08:57 AM

going to be a great quilt !!

laughingquilter 07-01-2014 10:39 AM

Oh that's going to be so striking with the black centers! I'm going to have to check out that book/pattern, it's an awesome way to use up some of those bits and pieces I have in my scrap stash.

fxsts93kf 07-01-2014 11:48 AM

Beautiful! I have been saving scraps to do that exact quilt.

Mariposa 07-01-2014 12:09 PM

Terrific blocks! :)

wow amazing work

This is going to be very cool when done. The strips are going to make a diamond pattern with the black outlining them. Very cool.
peace

that's a great start. i like the black centers

Doggramma 07-01-2014 01:37 PM

That will be a nice quilt! After 120 blocks, you should really reduce your stash too.

GingerK 07-01-2014 02:29 PM

That is beautiful. I love the black and how it makes the other colours pop. Will be waiting to see more.

dunster 07-01-2014 04:11 PM

The black is a nice touch. I always think that a scrappy quilt will reduce my stash, but sadly it doesn't. The scraps multiply.

I am so AFRAID of this! Ugh.

Love the scrappy blocks! Will make a striking quilt when finished!

patski 07-01-2014 05:51 PM

if you want to not have the bulk in the center, an old tailors trick was to put a drop of water and then press with the iron. It will flatten all those seams in the middle. It works great

I will have to try this! Thanks.

I heard a rumor about scrap piles have a non shrinking clause or contract of some kind. I think it is a conspiracy theory that never got debunked by a professional . Just sayin!!

Lilrain 07-01-2014 06:53 PM

That quilt will be very striking when complete.

Working on the same thing...scraps seem to multiply, likes rabbits!

joyful1 07-02-2014 06:14 AM

Great start!

dottie dodge 07-02-2014 11:38 AM

I'm working on one of these too but my triangles look sort of stubby/chubby compared to yours. What size are your squares? I like those longer triangles.

LITTLEOLDME 07-03-2014 04:38 AM

This is how I do some of my scrappy quilts. Just set the basket of scraps next to me and start sewing them together ,then cut out a block.

Ha ha ha! I agree, just when I think I have my scraps in a manageable order, more scraps appear in the middle of the night.

fayeberry 07-03-2014 06:46 AM

I just love that! so striking!

solstice3 07-03-2014 11:22 AM

Can't wait to see the whole thing

misseva 07-03-2014 12:36 PM

Very pretty quilt - reminds me of one of Bonnie Hunter's quilts http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/...pider-web.html . The one she's working on now has a yellow kite in the middle. I've got to try one some day.

Floralfab 07-03-2014 01:58 PM

Very nice block. I'd like to make a string quilt one day. I am saving small strips.

mjhaess 07-04-2014 05:02 AM

Great use of scraps..

Homespun 07-04-2014 05:55 AM

It will be gorgeous
